Safety Protocol[YOUR NAME]The project is located on [location]. [Descriptions of the location and travel itinerary]. Per [local organization], the Center for Disease Control, and local health organizations the following mitigation plan and guidelines will be used for safe and healthy fieldwork during the COVID-19 pandemic. These guidelines are in addition to providing a field travel emergency plan and a job hazard assessment. We are limiting the crew to five (5) participants: 3 local participants, 2 University of Arizona. Given there will be two participants flying to [field location] from Arizona, we will adhere to the [state government] out-of-state travel restrictions and have the Arizona participants either: (1) take a COVID-19 test 3 days prior to travel and ensure negative results, or (2) preferably, take a COVID-19 test on arrival in [location] and quarantine until the test results are reported (if there is a positive result, the participant will be quarantined and will need to be retested after 14 days).Upon return, both Arizona participants will self-quarantine and work remotely from their homes for two weeks.Participation 1. No one exhibiting COVID-19-like symptoms (e.g. dry cough, fever, loss of smell etc… consult CDC for full list) is allowed to participate in fieldwork. 2. Prior to fieldwork and travel, participating individuals should limit interaction with large groups. Outside travelers will need to quarantine until COVID-19 test results are reported. 3. Thermometers will be provided. Participants will check their internal temperatures daily. If a participant shows an elevated fever (100 or above) than that participant will be isolated to their tent and precautions made to transport them to the medical center in [location] for a medical check. 4. Each participant will need use face covers (e.g. surgical mask, bandana, etc.). This is required for participation in this fieldwork and the [local organization] will furnish covers as needed. Transport and Community Distancing 1. Project personnel will avoid unnecessary visits to [location] in order to minimize contracting or transmitting COVID-19 while getting supplies. 2. Food, gear, water, and fuel will be purchased in [location] as needed. Face coverings will be used at all times in public spaces and social distancing measures (6 ft spacing between individuals) will be adhered to. 3. For a period of approximately 2 hours, participants may need to travel together in the same vehicle. When traveling in the same vehicle, field personnel must wear facemasks. Non-drivers should sit in the backseat to maximize social distancing procedures. Three vehicles will be used in the project and will be allow us to distance within vehicles. Washing or sanitizing hands will be mandatory before exiting and after returning to any vehicle. 4. If public restrooms are open only one person at a time will use them. Social Distancing and Hygiene at the Field Site 1. The excavation units are 1 x 2 m in length with one being assigned to each individual. Individuals will maintain a 6 ft distance while excavating. 2. In gear staging areas, individuals will use them one at a time. If individuals need to be within a 6 ft distance of each other, individuals will be required to wear face coverings. 3. Common gear will be wipe down with sanitizers at least daily. Social Distancing and Hygiene at Field Camp 1. Social distancing of 6 feet or more will be maintained 2. Face masks will be used during times when social distancing measures cannot be met. 3. Hand washing facilities, equipment, and opportunities will be available for all participants (plenty of soap and water, wash for a minimum of 20 seconds). 1. Hand sanitizer will be available. 2. Sanitizing wipes or disinfectant sprays will be available. 3. Any common equipment will be sanitized at least daily. Camping 1. Field crew member’s tents will be at least 25 feet apart from each other. 2. Common areas (i.e. cooking areas, food storage areas, gear staging areas) should be used with appropriate social distancing or at different times. 3. No sharing of food or drink. Field crew members will be responsible for their own food and food preparation. Each field crew member will clean and be responsible their own dishes. 4. Hand sanitization will be provided around the camp. 5. Within the restroom, individuals will wipe down the area with sanitization wipes after use. Emergency Plans Should a Participant Show COVID-19 Symptoms 1. Should a participant show signs of COVID-19 such as extreme fatigue, extensive coughing, extensive and prolonged body and muscle aches, and fever and chills, they will be asked to be quarantined in their tent until they can be taken to a medical facility. 2. Participants that show symptoms of COVID-19 will be taken to a medical facility in [location] for medical assistance, testing and treatment, if needed. 3. Both the driver and affected participant of the vehicle will remain masked at all times while the affected participant is in transport to the medical facility. The affected participant will remain in the back of the vehicle at all times during transport. 4. Should a participant be tested positive for COVID-19, they will be removed from the field project. 5. The remaining participants will be notified of the COVID-19 positive test results and transported back to [location] to be quarantined for at least 3 days and tested for COVID-19 before they return to the field. 6. The Director of the [local organization] will be notified of the positive COVID-19 result. ................
