JOB DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE Recreation, Physical Education, and Athletic (RPEA) Facility Weekend Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Coordinator of RPEA Facilities

PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide weekend supervision of the RPEA facilities including greeting and assisting facility users; referencing emergency action plan in case of emergencies; handle conflict and/or confrontations between student staff and facility users; supervise student workers; and provide oversight of exercise equipment in the buildings

AREA OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Supervise student workers, make sure they arrive on time for their shifts and that all

positions within the building are covered. If a station is unmanned, you fill the position.

2. Make building rounds every 45 minutes – within a two- hour shift, you should

touch base with the student worker at least twice. Make sure that the student worker is

fulfilling the expectations of the job, is attentive and knows what the job entails.

Train the workers for the job specifications – cleaning fitness/weight room, laundry, front desk policies-refer to employee handbook. When making rounds, secure all external doors, store loose equipment, pick up lost and found items, and return towels to the fitness/weight rooms.

3. Make sure that the laundry is getting done – specifically the towels for the

fitness/weight rooms – there needs to be a constant supply. You may need to help by doing it yourself.

4. Help users with equipment needs; nets, curtains, baskets, etc.

5.Help with set up and take down of events in building when necessary.

6. Be aware of emergency action plans and make decisions accordingly, deal with plumbing emergencies and other leaking issues.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The main responsibility is to make sure the

building is staffed by student workers and to oversee all activities within the building.

Supervise enforcement of all building policies and adherence to the membership policies

– yellow (St.Olaf Community) and pink (Northfield Community) users and the appropriate spaces and times for each user group.

Contacts: Assistant Director of Facilities; Custodial Supervisors; as users or visitors of athletic facilities.

Education: Essential: High School Diploma or equivalent

Desirable: Bachelor degree, CPR and First Aid certification

Experience: Essential: Supervision of workers- middle – high school aged

Ability to make sound, safety oriented decisions

Desirable: Supervision of workers –high school-college aged

Supervisory experience in fitness/Recreation setting

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Excellent verbal and public relations skills with good written communication skills; supervisory experience

• Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of safety and risk management issues

• Must be:

o a quick thinker and act appropriately in emergencies

o level-headed when dealing with conflict; outgoing and engaging personality

• Basic computer knowledge to include email, Microsoft Word and database experience.

Physical Demands: Sitting, lifting, moving, standing, sweeping, bending.

Working Environment: Noise level will vary depending on activities in building.

Different flooring surfaces – tile, wood, carpet, mondo

Wide open spaces– may be cold in winter, warm in summer

Work Schedule: FTE: na – on-call position

Shift: Varies but must be able to work Saturday
