MAN – His Fall And Redemption

The FALL of MAN

Genesis 2:16 & 17; 3:1-7

Genesis 2:16 & 17 (NKJV)

16 And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “Of every tree of the garden you may freely eat;

17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.”

Genesis 3:1 - 7 (NKJV)

1 Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

2 And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden;

3 but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

4 Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die.

5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.”

6 So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise, she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.[pic]

Introduction:

Ended last week with Satan, Lucifer, the fallen angel, the deceiver, the adversary, the father of lies, the ruler of the world, the tempter, bringing sin to man that God had created.

Today I want to deal with Adam and Eve, mankind, who also chose to sin against God! I’m going to deal with four questions:

1. Why Did Satan Want Adam And Eve (Mankind) To Sin?

2. How Did Satan Convince Adam And Eve To Sin?

3. What Was The Result Of Adam And Eve’s Decision?

4. How Does The Fall Of Adam And Eve Affect Us?

1. Why Did Satan Want Adam And Eve (Mankind) To Sin?

A. Obeying Satan meant that man was worshiping him.

Romans 6:16 (NKJV) Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves servants to obey, you are that one's servants whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?

B. Satan is driven with a consuming passion to be worshiped as God.

Matthew 4:8 - 10 (NKJV) - The Temptation of Jesus

8 Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory.

9 And he said to Him, “All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me.”

10 Then Jesus said to him, “Away with you, Satan! For it is written, ‘You shall worship the Lord your God, and Him only you shall serve.’”

C. His passion for worship will be gratified

• Satan (the dragon) and the antichrist will be worshiped for a season:

Revelation 13:4 (NKJV) So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?”

D. Satan wanted Adam and Eve to worship him instead of God

1) He was jealous of their love and worship of God

2) His pride wanted their worship

Page 3

2. How Did Satan Convince Adam And Eve To Sin?

A. As the adversary and father of lies, Satan used his greatest tool:

DECEPTION!

1) Deception = to lure, as by a bait, ensnare

= (also) corrupt, mingle with lies,

good with bad, right with wrong…

2) Eve was Deceived before she gave to Adam….

In 1 Timothy 2:14 (NKJV) (The Apostle Paul said) And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression.

B. How Was Eve Deceived?

1) Mind Games:

a) “God didn’t really mean what He said……”

▪ Genesis 3:1 (paraphrased) “Did God really say ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

▪ (Me) “God made all the trees, don’t you think He would want you to enjoy all of them?”

b) “God wouldn’t really cause you to die…..”

▪ “He loves you! He walks with you in the cool of the day!”

▪ “His nature isn’t like that. He wouldn’t really kill you.”

▪ “Did you hear God say that?” Adam told you and maybe it’s not really what God said!

▪ “You will really be wise like God – not dead!”

Page 4

d) Same mind games today:

▪ “God who is Love wouldn’t really punish you!”

▪ “That’s what the preacher thinks!”

▪ “God wants you to enjoy life….”

▪ “Doing one thing won’t destroy you spiritually!”

▪ “Not praying or reading God’s Word for a few days won’t matter!”

C. Eve Was Tempted To The Max!

1) John tells us that there are three categories of temptation:

1 John 2:16 (NKJV) For all that is in the world— (1) the lust of the flesh, (2) the lust of the eyes, (3) and the pride of life—is not of the Father but is of the world.

Genesis 3:6(a) So when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree desirable to make one wise…

a) Lust of the flesh - “…good for food…”

b) Lust of the eyes - “…pleasant to the eyes…”

c) Pride of life – “…desirable to make one wise…”

2) Jesus was tempted in all three ways (Matt. 4 & Luke 4):

a) Lust of the flesh - “…turn stones to bread…”

b) Lust of the eyes - “…give you all you can see…”

c) Pride of life - “…throw yourself down and show your

power…”

3) You can rest assured that Satan will come against you with

everything he has:

1) Lust of Flesh; 2) Lust of Eyes; 3) Pride of Life

Page 5

D. Eve Ate the Fruit and gave to Adam…

Genesis 3:6 (b) …she took of its fruit and ate. She also gave to her husband with her, and he ate.

1) Could there have been seduction?

a) First mention of husband?

b) …with her…

2) Adam heard God speak to him…yet he ate when Eve gave the

fruit to him?

3) Always better when someone else is “party” to our sin!

3. What Was The Result Of Adam And Eve’s Decision?

Genesis 3:7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves coverings.

A. They Knew They Had Sinned.

1) They covered themselves

2) They hid themselves

Genesis 3:8 – 10 (NKJV)

8 And they heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and Adam and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden.

9 Then the Lord God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”

10 So he said, “I heard Your voice in the garden, and I was afraid because I was naked; and I hid myself.”

Page 6

B. They Still Recognized God’s Presence:

1) Heard the sound of God walking in the garden (vs 8)

2) Heard God’s voice (vs 10)

3) Hid among the things they were accustomed to (trees)

4) Tried to go on with life as usual…

C. God Still Called Them… “Where are you” (vs 9)

Conclusion:

4. How Does The Fall Of Adam And Eve Affect Us?

A. Satan wants us to worship him

1) He will use every trick of deception possible

B. The Work of Satan Can Be Overcome

Revelation 12:11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.

1) Blood of the Lamb

2) Word of Our Testimony

3) Love of God More Than Life Itself

C. You can still recognize God’s voice.

D. He is calling you today…..
