Faith in the Family Father’s Day Activity

Gift of Thanks

As a father is kind to his children,

so the Lord is kind to those who honour him.

Psalm 103:13

If your children ask for bread, which of you would give them a stone? Or if your children ask for a fish, would you give them a snake? Even though you are bad, you know how to give good gifts to your children. How much more your heavenly Father will give good things to those who ask him!

Matthew 7:9-11

I thank my God for all the memories I have of you.

Philippians 1:3(God’s Word translation)

I thank God for you every time I think of you.

Philippians 1:3(GNB)

• As a way of encouraging children to celebrate Father’s Day and show their love to their dads, chat about how both their own fathers and God, their heavenly father give them all sorts of good gifts.

• As you remember good things their fathers do for their children and times shared together, encourage the children to write these down or draw a picture of them. Label them e.g. “Thanks, Dad, for when you ....”

• Put these in a box and wrap up, ready to give it to Dad on Father’s Day.

• Encourage children to say the verse from Philippians 1:3 to their Dad; or add it to their picture gifts.

• Adapt these activities for Granddads and other father figures in children’s lives, where appropriate.
