Name of Skill/Setting: Keep hands and feet to yourself

Purpose of Lesson (Why is this important?)

1.No one gets hurt.

2. No distractions and everyone stays focused on learning.

Teaching Examples

1. A teacher is reading a story. Her students are all sitting “criss-cross apple sauce” while keeping their hands to themselves.

2. A teacher is reading a story. One of her students is constantly touching another student, which causes them and other to lose focus on the story.

3. Someone walks into a classroom where all of the students are working quietly to themselves and keeping their hands on their own work without bothering anyone else.

Student Activities/Role Plays

1. Practice/Model how to sit properly on the floor/chair willing keeping your hands and feet to yourself.

2. Play “Simon Says.” Simon says “keep your hands in your lap,” “criss cross your legs,” etc.

Follow Up/Reinforcement Activities (Check for Understanding)

1. Reward and praise students who keep their hands and feet to themselves.

2. Practicing keeping hands and feel to yourself in every setting.

3. Model with students and other staff members how to keep your hands and feet to yourself.
