SUMMARY

Provides “hands-on” overall leadership and direction to store teammates, particularly in the absence of the Store Manager, to ensure store financial performance and guest service meets or exceeds company goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

The Assistant Manager will assist the Store Manager with training and supervision of store teammates to perform the following functions. (See the job descriptions for each store position for more specific details.) In addition, the Assistant Manager will perform many/most of these same duties as business needs require:

General functions that include but are not limited to: Complete all required computer-based training and other on the job training including Assistant Manager training, enforce attendance, safety, uniform, and various additional company policies, attend or conduct store safety and policy meetings.

Curbside Marketing duties that include but are not limited to: Hold advertising signs, wear a sandwich board or engage in any other form of curbside marketing outside of the store location to safely and enthusiastically attract guests for the immediate purchase of an oil change.

Courtesy duties that include but are not limited to: Greet guests and escort them to the lounge using the “No handles” policy, drive guest vehicles, place all protective equipment on the vehicle, assist in a complete check of guest lights, vacuum complete interior of the vehicle and discard obvious trash, and thoroughly clean the exterior windows of the vehicle.

Upper Bay duties that include but are not limited to: Guide guest’s vehicle safely into/out of the bay area, check all fluid levels, verify correct oil filter application and check and adjust all tire air pressure levels to ensure proper inflation. Complete ancillary services requested by guest and observe lower bay quality inspection as well as perform upper bay quality inspection.

Lower Bay duties that include but are not limited to: Complete under vehicle inspection, drain old oil and remove old filter, install new oil drain plug and new oil filter, wipe fittings and lubricate, check and fill gearboxes. Report under vehicle status to upper bay, observe under carriage of vehicle once started to ensure no leaks and perform lower bay quality inspection.

State Inspection duties (following certification) that include but are not limited to: Where applicable, pass the state issued background check and attend state inspection training class to obtain certification. Perform state specified inspections on vehicles, which may include all aspects of safety and emissions of the vehicle and adhere to the Heartland State Inspector Agreement and Code of Conduct.

Guest Service Advisor duties (following certification) that include but are not limited to: Gather and input guest and maintenance information into the computer, review oil options, vehicle manufacturer service recommendations, previous services, report on conditions to the guest and recap guest requested services with pricing and answer any questions. Review invoiced items with guest, accept payment for services, inform guest of value added items and offer invitation to return.

Team Lead duties (following certification) that include but are not limited to: Ensure team is working in an efficient, productive manner. Complete checkpoints screen for each vehicle serviced, monitor workflow and make adjustments as required. Ensure compliance with JTSS procedures and guidelines. Utilize role play / practice during downtime and coach and inform teammates by providing feedback on performance.

Assistant Manager duties that include but are not limited to:

• Provide prompt and courteous guest service, answer questions and, in the Manager’s absence or at the Manager’s direction, investigate and resolve guest problems and complaints.

• Maintain inventory control with thorough knowledge of cost of goods, turn-ratio, ordering and receiving products, etc.

• Assist the Store Manager with budgeting, sales forecasts, P/L performance, etc. as well as understand factors which affect sales and profit such as guest counts, marketing, weather, etc.

• Assist the Store Manager to maintain or direct the maintenance of the building, equipment and grounds, including but not limited to the air compressor, HVAC, flooring, bay nets, oil/water separator, interior and exterior lighting, dumpster area, sump pump, waste oil system, tire rotation lifts, overhead doors, etc.

• Troubleshoot and assist with the on-going maintenance of the POS system.

• Provide supervision and training to teammates including scheduling, coaching, performance management, and performance appraisals.

• Assist the Store Manager to confront unacceptable performance, hold teammates accountable, and utilize appropriate teammate performance management techniques when necessary.

• Assist the Store Manager with employment advertising, interviewing and selection. Initiate substance abuse and background checks as needed. Monitor staffing levels and adjust accordingly to maintain labor control. Conduct Teammate Orientation meetings if needed at your location.

• Provide safety, security, and environmental leadership for all store personnel with thorough knowledge of lockout / tagout procedures, MSDS, waste policy compliance, Spill Prevention Control & Countermeasures (SPCC) plan, the company safety manual, and OSHA & EPA resources and compliance. Be prepared to provide swift and accurate direction to teammates or guests who may become injured on the job and report all incidents no more than 24 hours after the occurrence.

• Open and Close the store as necessary.

• Complete any daily, weekly and monthly paperwork as the Store Manager may direct and ship or store paperwork as necessary.

• Maintain and enforce proper cash controls.

• Partner with the Loss Prevention Department to ensure LP policy compliance; promote honesty and integrity in all business transactions; report incidents of theft of inventory, assets, and/or cash shortage over $10; and report all burglaries or robberies immediately to the LP Department after emergency services and your District or Market Manager are contacted.

• Assist at other locations as directed.

MANAGEMENT / SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position must select effective team members using the Heartland Interview Process, establish clear expectations to the team, delegate effectively, promote the Respect in the Workplace policy, maintain an Open Door policy, be approachable and communicate regularly with all team members, follow up on all issues in a timely manner, conduct staff meetings, hold subordinates accountable, confront unacceptable performance and discipline appropriately. This position must also demonstrate a desire to meet company goals, providing clear vision / direction / strategy to subordinates and set the example for attitude, professionalism, and work ethic at the location. Responsible for managing all aspects of the store in the absence of the Store Manager.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

• Read, write and speak English.

• Must be able to operate equipment such as (but not limited to) overhead and floor mounted oil and grease guns, transmission jack, air conditioner service machine, differential pump, hand tools, radiator service machine, transmission service machine, tire rotation equipment, computer, telephone and cash register.

• Must be able to drive vehicles.

• Must posses effective and cooperative communication skills, including the ability to communicate with guests, teammates, co-workers, superiors and the Corporate office.

• Previous Lube Technician or automotive experience is helpful.

• Previous management / supervisory experience is preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Must posses a valid driver’s license.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

• Must be able to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time.

• Must be able to push, pull, bend at the knees and waist, lift, twist body at the waist, raise and hold arms overhead, turn head-neck-shoulders as needed, climb steps, grasp and hold tools and other items with hands, all of this for either extended periods of time or many times throughout the shift.
