Learning Target: Students will learn how to read with fluency.

Background: These passages and activities have been chosen for a first grade reading level.

Students read at a 1st grade grade level. Students learn reading strategies to decode words in

kindergarten.

Pay attention to Punctuation When Reading

Review: What do you need to

do to be a fluent reader?

1. Read with accuracy. Make sure to read all the words correctly. Do they make sense? Read the words surrounding an unknown word to double check.

2. Read with expression. Pay attention to punctuation. Read like the character is feeling.

3. Read with appropriate speed or rate. Don't read too fast and don't read too slow. Make sure you are understanding what you are reading.

Practice #1:

Practice reading the 100 sight words to become more Accurate when reading.

Read along with the reader. Look at the beginning letter for a hint if you can't remember the word.
