Believe in Equity, Access, and Relationships for all Students

Ms. Shawaan T. Robinson

Principal

Dear Briggs Chaney Middle School Parents, Guardians and Students,

Happy New School Year! I hope this letter finds you safe, healthy and well. The Briggs Chaney Middle School

staff is excited to welcome you all to a year of cultivating excellence fostered through positive relationships in a

culturally inclusive learning environment.

We are committed to our partnership with parents and the Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA). We want

to encourage you to become actively engaged in our school through the PTSA, but, more importantly, to stay

involved in your child*s academics and social development during these critical middle years. We have several

opportunities for parents and guardians to be engaged and informed.

Website: Visit our website at schools/briggschaneyms to stay

informed with the latest information.

ParentVue: This is a tool that allows parents and students to connect directly with classroom teachers

regarding assignments, grades and notices. It is strongly recommended that all parents/guardians

establish a ParentVue account. In August, parents/guardians will receive a letter from Montgomery

County Public Schools central office with instructions on creating accounts. Please visit

for more information. Additionally, feel

free to connect with your child*s counselor for assistance.

Twitter: Social media is not just for kids! Twitter is a great way to receive quick reminders about school

events, hear of exciting classroom experiences and see pictures of key events. Follow me on Twitter at

@BriggsChaneyMS.

Additionally, in an effort to be eco-friendly, communications will be delivered weekly through the PAW Print

newsletter by email, and Connect-Ed voice messages.

Immunizations

If you have a student entering Grades 7 or 8 this year, they must be up-to-date with immunization requirements

established by Maryland Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Students must have meningococcal

(MCV4) and tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis/whooping cough (Tdap) before the first day of school. Montgomery

County is offering free vaccination clinics. Please go to our website for additional information.

Free and Reduced-Price Meals

Students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on household size and income. They may also

qualify if they are receiving Food Supplement Program (FSP) or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits.

Families may apply for meal benefits by completing an Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals for the

current school year.
