First Grade Math Unit 7 Plan

Grade Level: 1 Time: February 22 - March 20 (20 days) Previous Standard: previous CA standard needed for the essential

standard in the unit

K.MD.3 Classify objects into given categories; count the numbers of objects in each category and sort the categories by count.

Unit: Shapes, Time, and Data Essential Standards: 1.MD.3, 1.MD.4, 1.G.3 Future Standard: next CA standard students will learn for the

essential standard in the unit

2.MD.7 Tell and write time from analog and digital clocks to the nearest five minutes, using a.m. and p.m.

2.G.A.3 Partition circles and rectangles into two, three, or four equal shares, describe the shares using the words halves, thirds, half of, a third of, etc., and describe the whole as two halves, three thirds, four fourths. Recognize that equal shares of identical wholes need not have the same shape.

Standards for Mathematical Practice:

1. Make sense of problems and persevere in solving them. 2. Reason abstractly and quantitatively. 3. Construct viable arguments and critique the reasoning of others. 4. Model with mathematics. 5. Use appropriate tools strategically. 6. Attend to precision. 7. Look for and make use of structure. 8. Look for and express regularity in repeated reasoning.

Student Learning Targets:

1. I can tell and write time in hours and half hours using analog and digital clocks. (1.MD.3)

2. I can organize, represent, and interpret data with up to three categories. (1.MD.4)

3. I can partition circles and rectangles into two and four equal shares and describe the shares and the whole. (1.G.3)

4. I can understand that decomposing circles and rectangles into more equal shares creates smaller shares. (1.G.3)
