WashburnDonna Jean (Johnson) Washburn, 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 1, 2012, at Heartland Haven Home Plus, Inman, Kansas. Donna was born on March 13, 1919, in Lindsborg, Kansas, the daughter of Daniel and Laura (Nelson) Johnson. She graduated from McPherson High School in 1937 and from McPherson College with a teaching degree in 1941. Donna taught in a one-room school house in Windom, Kansas prior to becoming a homemaker. On July 4, 1943, she was united in marriage to Theodore R. “Ted” Washburn in McPherson, Kansas. This union was blessed with a daughter, Jean. Ted preceded Donna in death on March 22, 2007. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she served as the librarian for many years, Ladies Reading Circle, Friends in Council, Domestic Arts Club, and various other clubs. She was a 70 year member of P.E.O.Chapter AY. Donna was an avid reader and Bridge player. She also enjoyed knitting and traveling with Ted. Survivors include: daughter, Jean “Bunny” Byrd and husband, Jimmy, of McPherson; two grandchildren, Taysha Forsberg and fiancé, Matt Yowell, of McPherson and Tannah Janssen of Turlock California; two great-grandchildren, Aiden Forsberg and Aniyis Yowell; and one niece, Allison Malter of Charlotte, North Carolina. Donna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Ted, and a brother, Daniel Johnson.
