2) $400.00 to purchase food to feed 160 at a picnic luncheon

Are open to ideas you may have for items to raffle, to use for prizes, or for each attendee.

3) Four computers and one printer for patient use in the Dom library. To be shared by the 4 residential treatment programs. Computers will assist veterans in corresponding with family and friends, completing job applications, typing letters, etc.

Substance Abuse Treatment Program

Todd Holliday, Acting Chief

1) 200 Bus Passes per month. This would help our veterans with very little resources to get to SATP appointments and back home.

2) We would love to have a coffee type bar for our lobby in SATP to welcome vets and families.  Two large coffee pots, regular and decaf coffee and cups, sugar etc....  It would be great to have some sort of high counter top piece of furniture that could be used to store the items and have them on top of it during business hours.  This would be a great customer service action for our veterans.

3) We could use several relaxation/meditation CDs in our program and for our meditation/relaxation groups and to lend to vets when they want to use them.

4) We could also use DVDs that are education about Alcoholism/Addiction.  We can use this in our programming to educate our veterans about their illness.

5) It would be great to have 10 new recliners for our vets that sometimes have trouble sleeping at night lying down and want to recline in order to relax and try and sleep.  We would create a quiet area for these recliners to vets can put them to use at night and be able to go to this designated area during the day if they find they need a break.

6) Our veterans Kitchen---break room in SATP is bare and not very warm or comfortable.  Two nice large dining table/chairs and some decorations for the walls in this area would help create a more relaxing comfortable environment.

7) We need some sitting area/benches outside of the entrance to SATP lobby.  The vets who want to be outside have to stand.  4 benches would suffice and to have them located in the shade would be great.

8) Need items to support our incentive prizes for veterans who responsibly attend continuing care groups following treatment.

In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 8301, VA is authorized to accept donations or gifts for the benefit of patients. This list of needs is provided to inform potential donors or gift givers of the needs of this local VA facility to “care for those who have borne the battle”.

The Internal Revenue Service has announced that under the Tax Code, donations to the Department of Veterans Affairs’ General Post Fund for exclusively public purposes are deductible from federal income taxes in the manner and to the extent allowable. The announcement reflects the tax law provision which makes those donations deductible as “donations to the United States.”

Donations to support any of the Department’s programs are deductible, whether the donor directs that the donated funds be used for a specific purpose or the donor allows the Department to decide how the donated funds will be used.
