FWISD Grading Plan Parent DocumentAll Students: Graduating Seniors:Grading periods will be rearranged:Final Semester grades for graduating5th Grading period: February 17 – April 3seniors will be finalized by Friday,6th Grading period: April 6 – May 29May 22, 2020.What grading system will be used for the 5th and 6th grading periods?Teachers will monitor student progress and will assign a P for passing or F for failing for each of those grading periods. This method will be used for all students in grades 1 – 12 and for all courses.Middle and High School teachers will also assign a P for passing or F for failing for the 2nd semester grade. What will happen to the grades that may already be posted in Focus from the 5th grading cycle?Teachers will enter grades for assignments completed prior to spring break. Teachers will then use the grades to determine a Pass or Fail grade for the 5th grading cycle grade. If the student has a passing grade (70 – 100) in Focus for a particular class, the student will be assigned a P. If the student has a failing grade (0 – 69), the teacher will work with the student to provide makeup work, alternate assignments, or enrichment activities to help the student earn a passing grade for the 5th grading cycle.What is the time frame to raise a grade to a passing grade for the 5th grading period?Students will have until Friday, April 10 to complete assignments for the 5th grading period. Teacher grades will be due Tuesday, April 14, and report cards for the 5th grading cycle will be posted to Focus on Wednesday, April 22.When will teachers begin taking grades for the 6th Grading Cycle?Teachers will begin assessing progress on Monday, April 6. How many assignments per week can I expect my child to receive?Students will receive one assignment per week per course. The assignment will be used to monitor the student’s progress.Will my child be given the opportunity to redo an assignment with an F?Yes, teachers will work with all students to provide opportunities to pass the grading period and semester.Students Enrolled in Grades 1 - 8Will 5th and 6th grading period grades be used to determine promotion?No. Grades from the 1st – 4th grading periods will be used to determine promotion.Students Enrolled In High School CoursesWill my child be able to earn credit for the second semester?Yes, students who receive a “P” as the second semester grade will earn credit for the semester.Will semester exams be given for high school courses?No, semester exams will not be administered for high school courses.If my child failed a class the first semester, will he have an opportunity to regain that credit?Yes, a student who failed a class the first semester will be enrolled in an Edgenuity course to regain that credit.Students in Grades 9 - 12How will my high school student’s GPA and Class Rank be determined for the second semester?Second semester grades will not be used to calculate GPA and Class Rank. For the 19 – 20 school year, only first semester grades will be used.What about grades for Dual Credit and OnRamps courses?Dual credit grades received from college partners will be converted to P or F for the FWISD report card and transcript. Colleges and Universities will follow their own guidelines for how grades will appear on the college/university transcript.FWISD OnRamps teachers will assign a P or F for the 5th grading period, 6th grading period, and the second semester grade. UT Austin will follow its own policies for the University grade.Students in Grade 12How will Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Latin honors be determined for graduating seniors?The GPA and Class Rank as of the end of the first semester will be used to determine Valedictorian, Salutatorian, and Latin Honors.Students in Pre-Kindergarten and KindergartenTeachers will transfer 4th grading period grades over to the 5th grading period. If additional skills were developed and noted prior to spring break, those can be reflected in the 5th grading period.GRADING OF STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDSIf the content is taught solely in General Education, the grade will be assigned by the General Education teacher.If the content is taught solely by the Special Education teacher, the grade will be assigned by the Special Education teacher.If the content is taught through collaboration between the Special Education teacher and the General Education teachers, the grade should be assigned by the teacher who is responsible for the instruction of the content unless otherwise specified in the IEP.The grading period and grading system in General Education will apply to a Special Education student unless otherwise specified in the IEP.Special Education teachers are responsible for reporting IEP progress.? Each Special Education teacher will complete IEP Progress Reports which will accompany the Report Card for?the designated 5th and 6th reporting periods for 2019/2020 school year.? ................
