As our school year comes to a close, there are several exciting eighth grade events scheduled. We have provided a schedule and explanation of each event below. 8th Grade Field Trip – Thursday, June 12, 2014 (8:30 AM – 5:30 PM) Final Payment, permission slips and waivers were due in March/April. There is limited space for additional students on a first come first served basis. Please contact Ms. Gadek for further information. The rain date for the 8th Grade Field Trip will be Tuesday, June 17th, 2014.Students who have submitted their payment and have exhibited appropriate behavior during the 2013-2014 school year are invited to attend the trip. We will leave FMS at 8:30 AM and travel to Clementon Amusement Park in Clementon, NJ. There is no need for students to bring cash for the cost of admission and food because it has already been paid. Students are not permitted to bring electronic equipment with them on the bus. This includes CD players, Ipods, Boom Boxes, MP3, PSP, etc. The school is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.What to bring: Sunscreen, one-piece bathing suit that is moderate for swimming in the pool, towel, hat, sunglasses, and extra t-shirts and shorts if needed.All students attending the trip must have a student id with them in order to board the bus.Please make arrangements to pick up your child promptly at 5:30 PM when students are scheduled to return.Students who have exhibited inappropriate, irresponsible and/or disrespectful behavior at various times throughout the 2013-2014 school year will not be permitted to attend the trip, in which case, an administrator will notify those Parents/Guardians. A full school day with regular class periods will be provided for students who are not attending the trip.7th & 8th Grade Awards Assembly – Monday, June 9, 2014 (6:30 PM)Students chosen to receive awards for academic and other accomplishments will be recognized at a special ceremony on Monday, June 9th at FMS in the auditorium. Parents/Guardians of those students will receive a mailed invitation requesting their attendance at this event. Appropriate academic dress is expected.8th Grade Dance – Friday, June 20, 2014 (7:00 PM – 10:00 PM) The 8th grade dance is scheduled for Friday, June 20th. Our PTSO has planned a wonderful event that includes music, entertainment, and food. The admission price is $10.00. Tickets will be sold during 8th grade lunch periods on Tuesday, June 17th through Friday, June 20th. This is an 8th grade dance only. Students who do not attend Franklin Middle School and who are not 8th graders are not permitted to attend.Advice – This dance is not a prom or formal event. Students are encouraged to dress for a special occasion (no shorts or jeans). There should be no limousines, gowns, or tuxedos for this event and doors will close at 8:00 PM.Any student who receives ISS or OSS from June 1st to June 20th will not be permitted to attend the dance. Any payments will be not refunded.All students attending the dance must have a student id with them in order to enter the dance.On the morning of the dance, any student who has to leave the building to make hair and other appointments for the dance must be present at school for four hours before they can leave the school (7:30-11:30am). Any student who attempts to come to school on the day of the dance after 12:00pm will not be permitted to attend the dance. Please make arrangements for hair appointments the day prior to the dance.Any student absent on the day of the dance will not be permitted to attend. 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony – June 24-25, 2014The 8th Grade Recognition Ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, June 24th and Wednesday, June 25th. Due to the size of this year’s eighth grade class the students will be grouped in alphabetical order and have two sessions each day. The Recognition Ceremony is an acknowledgement of our students’ accomplishments and transition to high school. All students, regardless of academic accomplishment, will participate in the ceremony. Example: Boys - white top and dark pants. Girls - white top and dark pants/skirt or an appropriate dress.Before the recognition ceremony, students, parents, and guests will be directed to the FMS Auditorium where parents and guests will be seated. We ask that all parents/guests wait until the end of the ceremony to take memorable photographs on this very special day. When the ceremony is concluded parents/guardians can sign their child out of school for the day.The administration and staff greatly appreciate the contributions and efforts of our PTSO this year.
