Dear Families, Friends, and Neighbors:

This year we are asking our community to come together again to raise at least $900,000

to complement the District¡¯s other sources of funding for the 2016¨C?2017 school year.

Thanks to your support, the District can keep our class sizes small, and provide excellent

supplemental programs like music, physical education, and foreign language instruction.

Most importantly, the District is able to recruit and retain excellent teachers, provide funds

to hire classroom aides and learning specialists, and offer our students counseling services.

Maintaining these qualities, programs, and services that many of us consider essential to

our children¡¯s education is possible because of our ability to supplement PVSD¡¯s funding

with successful Annual Campaigns, year after year.

Thanks to all of you, last year¡¯s campaign contributed $900,000 to the District¡¯s budget.

This was comprised of donations from 80% of District families plus 198 donations from

community members, businesses, and matching donations from many employers.

The Portola Valley Schools Foundation (PVSF) is a non?profit, all volunteer organization

and is the primary vehicle for private financial support for the Portola Valley School District.

initiative called ¡°Project Lead the Way¡±.

This past year our funds were used to¡­

Open CMS¡¯s MakerSpace, hire a MakerSpace

Innovation Coach, and host a weekly

¡°Makery Club¡± after school

Relocate and upgrade ORM¡¯s MakerSpace

Provide new robotics, electronics,

and energy curriculum for 3rd¨C5th graders

Purchase VEX Robotics Kits that the 7th¨C8th

grade Robotics Team used to design, build,

program, and test robots

Supply materials that 7th¨C8th graders

used to explore electrical circuits and design

a playground using CAD software

Keep our MakerSpaces open for tinkering

at both campuses during lunchtime and

class rotations, and twice a week for CMS¡¯s

after school Makery Club

Grow the CMS Robotics Team to

include 5th¨C6th graders and ready

them for competitions

coding lessons that will enable them to build

an Android App using MIT AppInventor
