APPLE HARVEST FESTIVAL With the festival just days away

please sign up to help if you haven't already. Darla McCrary said that the committee is looking into an on-line sign up tool to help make next year's Apple Harvest preparations smoother on everyone.

According to Paul Frank this should be a very busy festival weekend. The weather forecast is great and he expects six to eight thousand people to attend the two day event. There are more vendors lined up than ever so this could be the biggest Apple Harvest Festival yet.

Darcus is still taking Bingo prize donations...gift cards are always a hit....or check your closets for unused items you can re-gift. Home baked goods are welcome too!

NEED A MAKE-UP? The Rotary Club of Northern Shenandoah Valley (aka 'The

Area ONE|ders') is meeting tonight in the meeting r oom of Region's 117 Restaurant (180 Bald Eagle Dr ive Lake Fr ederick, VA). They will be installing 5 new members, plus installing their "Founding Father", George Karnes as an honorary member. They will also be presenting a big fancy check (and a real one) to the Blue Ridge Educational Center.

The Rotary Club of Northern Shenandoah Valley was chartered in March 2018 to represent District 7570 Area One in Virginia. Members are residents or employees in Clarke County, Frederick County, Warren County, Front Royal and Winchester. Meetings are held on the first and third Thursdays of each month at 6pm in rotating locations in our communities (first Thursday=social gathering, third Thursday=assembly meeting). They currently have 21 members and are seeking others to join in the spirit of Rotary.

Remember, today is the tomorrow you worried about yesterday."

Our Last Program Local historian John Flood

brought the club up to speed on his recent work. In the early part of this decade John produced two DVDs first Retro Winchester Volume I and later a look at the history of the Back Room Lounge. John received praise for his work and continued to dig into Winchester history when he put on Winchester Frontier Days in 2016 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of Buffalo Bill Cody's visit to Winchester. Cody was considered one the nations six greatest scouts and news accounts document Cody performing in shows off the Berryville Pike just three months before he died in 1916.

Flood's next project is to reboot one of his old ones. He has launched a campaign titled, "Back in the Day". Flood is looking for photos, stories and memorabilia from the 1930's1970's so that he can help tell even more of Winchester's amazing stories. The inspiration for this latest campaign stems from Flood learning that The Animals rock band once played at the Old Woolen Mill on Kent Street. He figures that there must be a lot more great material where that story came from. Check out the campaign on facebook at Back in the Day Winchester Virginia. Flood said he would return to the club when the project is complete and he has a date for his Back in the Day celebration.

JAMAICAN ME WANT TO SERVE Byron Brill reported that there are

nine volunteers signed up to go to Jamaica the first two weeks of November and is looking for more. If you are interested see Byron. He also thanked the board for providing funding to help purchase dictionaries to distribute and dental equipment to use during their mission. Byron's goal is to have two trips to the island each year.

We will be working with the Negril Rotary Club while there providing help in the form of everything from soup kitchen service to painting and child care. Cost should be little more than $1,000 and entertainment is cheap, so check with him for details.

The travel date is October 31, 2019 returning on November 14, 2019. If you have any interest or need additional information, please call Byron or Kathy Brill at 540-664-1834 or email: kkanter8@

NEXT BOARD MEETING

October 24th 6pm

Winchester Country Club

All are welcome & it counts as a Make-up!

HEALTH REPORT Libba began her health report by asking the entire

club to give Dave Smith a round of applause to welcome him back to his first meeting after recent heart surgery. Libba reported that Tommy Kremer also had heart valve replacement surgery last month and he is also making a speedy recovery.

HEALTH TIP Libba told us that September is national honey month and her health tip described the benefits of honey including; providing energy, regulating blood sugar, boosting your immune system, improving memory and sleep and even improving your skin.

All the wonderful benefits of honey could not be made possible without the incredible honey bee. The National Honey Board is committed to finding ways to help beekeepers maintain the health of their honey bees and was among the first to provide funding for Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) research in early 2007. Since 2004, the National Honey Board has funded multiple honey bee health research projects every year.

OUR LAST DRAWING Darla McCrary won $10 last week in our raffle, but missed
