Affordable Family Performances at Young Auditorium in February

WHITEWATER – The month of February offers several opportunities for affordable family fun at Young Auditorium in Whitewater with Horizons Family Series and Never Too Young Series events. The auditorium is located at 930 W. Main Street in Whitewater, WI (on the UW-Whitewater campus).

On Saturday, February 7 at 2 p.m., the Young Auditorium Horizons Family Series presents Missoula Children’s Theatre (MCT) and a cast of young people who will perform an original show, “Aladdin.” MCT, based in Missoula, Montana, is the nation’s largest touring children’s theatre, and has been touring extensively for 41years.

A tour team arrives in a given town with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up, everything it takes to put on a play...except the cast. The team holds an open audition and casts 50-60 local students to perform in the production. The show is rehearsed throughout the week and performed on a Saturday. All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s stories and fairytales with a twist. Ticket prices for this show range $9.50-$13.50.

On Sunday, February 22 at 3 p.m., join the inquisitive, lovable little monkey Curious George, star of books, movies and the award-winning PBS television show in this delightful new musical. George helps his friend Chef Pisghetti enter a meatball contest. George goes on an adventure in which he learns about Rome, meatballs, and friendship. Tickets for the “Curious George” Horizons Family

Series performance range $9.50-$15.50.

On Saturday, February 28 at 3 p.m., participate in “Calling All Jitterbugs,” the Dancing With Class™ interactive family dance workshop through the Young Auditorium Never Too Young Series. Young children and their families will love to clap and dance along with the new book, “Jitterbugs!” by Margot Toppen and illustrated by Karen Light. The children’s story is inspired by real-life 1930s Lindy Hop dancers George Snowden (“Shorty George”) and Beatrice Gay (“Big Bea”) who won dance contests at places like the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, New York. Tickets for adults are $5.00 each, children ages 2-11 are $3.00, and children under 2 are FREE.

“Never Too Young” is a performing arts series offered by Young Auditorium and designed to appeal to families with young children. The performances are educational, entertaining, and engaging for children of all ages, and feature artists that interact with the audience. The shows also offer family-friendly prices and a children’s play area to make the event enjoyable for everyone.

The Young Auditorium serves as a presenting organization for the performing arts and as an educational and cultural center enriching the lives of regional communities, offering a full season of world-class performing arts presentations. Tickets for any show can be purchased online, by calling the Box Office at (262) 472-2222, or in person. The Greenhill Center of the Arts Box Office is located inside the UW-Whitewater Center of the Arts building near Barnett Theatre on the UW-Whitewater Campus (930 West Main Street in Whitewater).
