left952500PO: 1313Effective Date: November 4, 2016Policy: Guidance for Completing Socialization PlanPolicy Objective: Early Head Start Home Based Socialization Plan Purpose: Socialization plans are a communication tool. They are developed and used to systematically plan for and deliver the most effective and productive use of children’s and parent socialization time. Home visitors need to make wise decision about the objectives, activities, methods, and strategies they employ to help children in a group situation to move along the developmental continuum and meet their individual goals. A socialization plan provides direction toward attainment of those goals. The more organized the socialization experiences is the more effective will be the teaching and the greater will be the learning. Format: The Early Head Start Socialization plan is composed of 3 pages. The first 2 pages are the Bi-Weekly plan and the third is the Changes in the Environment form. A socialization plan must be developed for each socialization group. Bi weekly Socialization Plan Should include: Parent and Child Activity: This section includes group/circle time activities such as stories, songs, finger plays. During this time the home visitor offer a variety of activities for children and families to learn and play alongside other families in the program. When planning Parent and Child Activities, staff must consider giving all parents the opportunity to encourage learning and enrich relationships with their child/ren. TS Goals: Document the teaching strategies goal(s) associated with each activity. Very Young Infants Activity(ies): Planning activities for infants that are approximately birth to 9 months old based on the TS goal(s). Mobile Infant Activity (ies): Planning activities for infants that are approximately 9 -18 months old based on the TS goal(s). Toddlers Activity (ies): Planning activities for toddlers that are approximately 19 – 36 months old based on the TS goal(s). Individualization/IFSP Goals: Document initials of children who would most benefit from the planned activity. If the individualization related to a specific goal for a child with an IFSP, the goal should be written out and the child’s initials added. Child to Child Interaction Activity: This section refers to planned activities that directly relate to the focus/theme/study topic or achieving a EHS required health, safety, nutrition or mental health (social/emotional) activity. Generally this activity should take place during free play. TS Goals: Document the teaching strategies goal(s) associated with each activity. Very Young Infants Activity (ies): Planning activities for infants that are approximately birth to 9 months old based on the TS goal(s). Mobile Infant Activity (ies): Planning activities for infants that are approximately 9 -18 months old based on the TS goal(s). Parent to Parent Activity: This section fosters sharing, learning and fun for parents. It should be facilitated by one of the home visitors for about 15- 20 mins and take place during the child to child activity. Parents will have an opportunity to: Observe how their child interact with other children. Learn more about the ages and stage of development. Gather ideas on how to support the child as he or she plays in a group. Gather more information around specific topics that interest the parents. Have fun and make friends. Learn new skills. Parent Education/Socialization Objectives: This section will support how staff promotes the development of strong family bonds that will result in a warm, caring, and responsive home environment. Breakfast/Lunch: Circle the one served. List food served. Follow Up Socialization Activities/Ideas for the next socialization: The home visitor should elicit ideas from parents for the next socialization. Document their ideas on the socialization plan and refer to them when planning the next socialization group. The group socialization feedback form should also be completed by the parents that participated in group. Changes in the Environment: This section denotes any and all changes made to the socialization environment to enhance the children’s educational opportunities. The type of changes expected are as follows: Introduction to new materials based on the developmental maturation of the group. Props that support the lesson plan’s focus/theme/study topic.Materials that relate to individualizing for children based on individual goals. Materials used to support goals of children with an IFSP. Home Visitor Notes: Document any specific tasks that are assigned or specific responsibilities of the home visitor. GOLD Reports: To assist home visitors in planning the parent and child activity as well as the child to child activity, the home visitor can run a CLASS Profile report from GOLD. This CLASS Profile will show the level of each child for each objective and dimension. ................
