|If you install from the CD, follow the instructions. |

|You must likely want to install WinEdt, it costs about 30 dollars for life, it is worth!!!! |

PDF presentation using the latex tue/package

(Require Latex Installed)

|Download the tue-package |

|Loot at an example at C:/MiKTeX/localtexmf/examples/presentatie/slides.tex and modify it to meet your needs. |

|Click on pdflatex |

|If you have pauses in your slides then … |

|1. Go to Programs then Miktex then click on AddPause |

|2. It will ask you for your pdf file and you browse it. |

|3. It will automatically generate another pdf file. Be patient |

|After this, check that your PDF file produced has the pauses and it works the way you want. |

|TIP: Save your PDF presentation in your flash drive. Use FULL SCREEN to view the file, required. If you have a movie included, save it too (the movie is not embedded in the PDF file) Make sure |

|that where you play movie, they have the movie player required (AVI or Windows Media Player for example). |

PRO presentation using the latex beamer package

(Require Latex Installed)

|0 Mainly you need four important items Zipgenius, pgf-1.01.tar.gz, latex-beamer-3.06.tar.gz, tuebeamer.zip and tuebeamerexample.zip. |

|1 Install MikTex it is free. After doing that, make a folder called TBEAMER on your desktop. You will download the |

|following here. |

|2 (If you are in windows, then) Go to Download (from wherever you want) and |

|install zipgenius standard version. |

|3 Go to Beamer Latex web-page, download the pfg package from |

| |

|After, extract the files, by right clicking, (zipgenius will be the defaulat program to open) to |

|texmf\tex\generic\ (localtexmf) or C:\MiKTeX\localtexmf\tex\generic\ |

|4 Go to Beamer Latex web-page again, download the beamer class latex-beamer-3.06 from |

| |

|After, extract the files, by right clicking, (zipgenius will be the default program to open) to |

|texmf\tex\latex\ (localtexmf) or C:\MiKTeX\localtexmf\tex\latex\ |

|After you have done this, rename the folder latex-beamer-3.06 by just beamer. |

|5 Go to the Tue Web site win.tue.nl/latex/windows.html download the "Style files" (tuebeamer.zip) and extract them |

|to a folder texmf\tex\latex\tuebeamer (localtexmf) or C:\MiKTeX\localtexmf\tex\latex\tuebeamer. |

|Download the "Sample code and example" (tuebeamerexample.zip) and extract to a folder "MyFolder" |

|Also download the folder cibeamer into the same directory |

|6 Refresh filename database. Open WinEdt. Then go to: Accessories, then Miktex then Miktex Options then select the General tab, then click on Refresh Now. If it does not run, go into C:\MiKTeX\texmf\miktex\bin\|

|and find mo execute it. |

When running slides.tex via pdflatex does not work check the following:

1. copy pdfscreen and psnfss from C:\MiKTeX\localtexmf\tex\latex\ into C:\MiKTeX\texmf\tex\latex\

2. Run, go into C:\MiKTeX\texmf\miktex\bin\ and find mo , double click on it, declare localtexmf as your local file in the options, now refresh database, now re-start winedt and erase from slides.tex the last slide.

3. It might also be the name “mysettings.tex”, it could had been as mysettings only, correct it.

4. If pdflatex damaged or something, check the pic files, they must be where the file calling them is. For example if slides.tex is calling miktexcd.jpg that file necessary must be in the same directory slides.tex is. Try removing the calling line if file is not available so there is no conflict of finding it.

5. If still pdf damaged file mistake, then check the pictures in mybeamersettings.tex

they should correspond to pictures that are in the file cibeamer inside texmf\tex\latex\tuebeamer (localtexmf) or C:\MiKTeX\localtexmf\tex\latex\tuebeamer.

this worked for me.

Now restart your computer..... and try inside your folder Myfolder, double click on the tueslides and then click on the pdflatex. It will ask you to install something like pgf, say yes! Wait and now.......It should run and a pdf file should come automatically on your screen.

That should make it! After this, check that your PDF file produced has the pauses and it works the way you want.

|TIPS: Save your PDF presentation in your flash drive. Use FULL SCREEN to view the file, required. If you have a movie included, save it too (the movie is not embedded in the PDF file). Make sure|

|that where you play movie, they have the movie player required (AVI or Windows Media Player for example). |

How to display your favorite background

|0 Mainly, you need to produce a pdf file of your favorite background you want. If you are using |4 Now double click on the eps2pdf icon located on your desktop or execute directly on |

|beamer-tue package, your background can be in any of the following formats: JPG,PNG,EPS,PDF. If |C:\MiKTeX\localtexmf\utils\eps2pdf.exe |

|you are using the tue-package, then you need a background in pdf format, here is how to do it. |It will ask you to select a file. |

| |Select it. Click ok. |

| |Save it in your directory where you have your presentation |

|1 Download and install gimp (previous to that you need to download and install another one which |5 You overlay option is ready to be used with your pdf-file-picture you generated. See the example |

|I do not remember) |slides.tex where they use a picture in the overlay option... |

| | |

| |Another possibility to produce your pdf background if you are using the tue-package is |

| |a) Have your file in a ps format (you can use photoshop or |

| |gimp if you want) |

| |b) Open Ghostview (included in your latex installation) |

| |c) Under File, select Convert |

| |Make sure the PDFwrite is selected |

| |Click Ok, and select a name for your pdf-file. |

|2 Open your favorite picture file with gimp | |

|3 Select save as (or export to, I do not remember) | |

|click on save as type (or format) | |

|select eps type | |

|select ok | |

How to include a logo in the beamer presentation

|Non-transparent logo : You need your logo in PNG, EPS, PDF or JPG format. Insert your logo in the logo option. You logo most likely will NOT be transparent. (unless your background and|

|the logo’s background match) |

|You want transparency: (Four ways described bellow, my favorite is the second one) |

|I will show you a method of converting a logo that is already transparent from eps to pdf |

|You need your logo in EPS or PS format, and it needs to be transparent. |

|(I think APS ghostcript can do it, I am not sure). |

|Open Ghostview (included in your latex installation) and open your logo file. |

|Under File, select Convert. |

|Make sure the PDFwrite is selected |

|Click Ok, and select a name for your pdf-file. |

| |

|Now there is another way of converting a logo (your logo might not be transparent) |

|from eps to pdf, the advantage is that your logo becomes transparent automatically: Suppose your logo has a name: dolphin and it is located at c:\peter\dolphin.eps |

|(in the following example I added a word to my logo to create a new logo) This is what you need to do: |

|Latex the following file and name it logo.tex |

|\documentclass[12pt]{article} |

|\usepackage{epsfig} |

|\setlength{\textheight}{24.5cm} |

|\newcommand{\logo}{\epsfig{figure=c:/peter/dolphin.eps,width=100pt}}. |

|\begin{document} |

|\pagestyle{empty} |

|\ \vspace{19cm} |

|\begin{tabular}{cc} |

|\hspace{-3cm} $\logo$ & \begin{tabular}{c} |

|{\hspace{-.4cm}\Huge \textbf{ I love Dolphins}} \ \\ \\ \\ |

|\end{tabular} |

|\end{tabular} |

|\end{document} |

| |

|Once you are satisfied with the output, do a dvitopdf under winedt: Done! Your logo is now logo.pdf and it is pdf-transparent!!!!!!!!!! (If this option works for you and you love it, send me an |

|e-mail to Jorge.garcia@csuci.edu, it is my invention) |

| |

|There is another way of transforming pictures in any format into pdf format, via the following web-site: |

|The only problem with this web-site is that if the picture is not transparent the output is not transparent. |

| |

|There is another way of converting a picture in several formats into pdf format: |

|You need to download three pieces of software: Pdf995, PdfEdit995 and Signature995 at the website: |

| you first install them. Now how do you use them? Read this: open |

|a word document, insert you logo and resize it until you are satisfied, now you can add |

|words etc, now go to: file and select the option print, select the option pdf995 and click ok this will take you to save your logo into a pdf file! The quality sometimes is not good. |
