GED? COMPLETION/CAREER EXPOSURE GED?/INTRODUCTION TO HEALTHCARE GED?/INTRODUCTION TO WAREHOUSE & DISTRIBUTION

The Middle College is partnering with the Capital Region's Adult Education program and the Community College Workforce Alliance (CCWA) to offer 3 FREE Summer PluggedInVA (PIVA)* GED?/Preparation & Industry Exposure classes.

PIVA is a statewide adult education workforce development design focusing on GED? preparation combined with workforce skill building, resulting in industry credentials.

The SUMMER 2017 classes will focus on GED? preparation and career exposure activities.

o Students who complete their GED? in the GED? COMPLETION class will have the opportunity to enroll at Reynolds for Fall 2017 college classes.

o Students who participate in the HEALTHCARE class will have the opportunity to continue into the Fall GED? Completion/CERTIFIED NURSE AIDE classes.

o Students who participate in the WAREHOUSE & DISTRIBUTION class will have the opportunity to continue into the Fall GED? Completion/ CERTIFIED LOGISTICS ASSOCIATE classes.

The 3 SUMMER classes include:

o GED? preparation and testing o Industry and career exposure o Digital literacy training o Financial literacy o Bus tickets and free parking for classes o All class materials and testing fees

***These 3 FREE grant-funded classes have a limited number of spaces available. We are looking for motivated, committed students who are ready to COMPLETE THEIR GED? and PREPARE FOR A CAREER.

TIME COMMITMENT:

JUNE 5, 2017 ? AUGUST 3, 2017 GED completion classes: M ? TH, 9:30 a.m. ? 12:30 p.m. Healthcare classes: M ? TH, 9:30a ? 12:30 p.m. Warehouse classes: M ? TH, 12:30 ? 3:30 p.m. All classes meet 4 days/wk for 9 weeks

GED?Preparation /Career Exposure (June 5 ? August 3, 2017) Classes meet MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

To be considered for this class, applicants must be able to test at a minimum of a 9th grade level on the MATH AND READING admission tests OR have completed a minimum of one of the four GED? exams.

This class is designed for individuals who have the primary goal of GED? completion Focused on GED? preparation and career exposure activities Academic instruction will be provided by Capital Region Adult Education Career exposure will be provided by Reynolds Community College Classes are taught in the Middle College located on the Downtown campus of

GED?/Introduction to Healthcare (June 5 ? August 3, 2017) Classes meet MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY

o To be considered for this class applicants must test at a minimum of a 9th grade level in READING and a 7th grade level in MATH on the admission tests.

This class is designed for individuals who have an interest in pursuing a career in the HEALTHCARE field and may have an interest in the fall GED?-to-CNA program

Focused on GED? preparation and HEALTHCARE career exposure activities Academic instruction will be provided by Capital Region Adult Education Career exposure will be provided by Reynolds Community College Classes are in the Middle College located on the Downtown campus of

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

3. GED?/INTRODUCTION TO DISTRIBUTION & LOGISTICS GED?/Introduction to Distribution & Logistics (June 5 ? August 3, 2017)

Classes meet MONDAY, TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY & THURSDAY 12:30p.m. ? 3:30 p.m.

o To be considered for this class applicants must test at a minimum of a 9th grade level in READING and a 7th grade level in MATH on the admission tests.

This program is designed for individuals who have an interest in pursuing a career in the field of WAREHOUSING, DISTRIBUTION & LOGISTICS and may have an interest in the fall GED?-to-Certified Logistics Associate program

Focused on GED? preparation and WAREHOUSING, DISTRIBUTION & LOGISTICS exposure activities

Academic instruction will be provided by Capital Region Adult Education Career exposure will be provided by the Community College Workforce Alliance Classes are in the Middle College located on the Downtown campus of

J. Sargeant Reynolds Community College.

o If you need a practice packet, let us know. o Review the rules and processes in the following areas BEFORE coming in to test:

multiplication table, long division, percentages, fractions, decimals, ratios & proportions, positive/negative numbers (integers), area & perimeter o Practice your math skills at , a free, YouTube+ videobased instructional service that can be tailored to your needs o Access additional free review materials o Multiplication facts (proficiency/aptitude) are the foundation for much of the math work you will be tested on. Please be sure to practice those basic skills! o Read as much as possible. Search for articles and books that interest you.
