Dictionary

Copy the new vocabulary in the second section of your spiral.

1. Start a fresh page in the second section your spiral. Head that page with the name of the current vocabulary. Ex.: Classroom Objects

2. Copy all the vocabulary from that section into your spiral. If you run out of room on that page, start a new page and Head it the same way.

3. Ask for help. Use cups to let teacher know what you need.

4. Do not put more than one section of vocabulary on each page.

5. When done, put blue cup up to get signed off on sheet.

Autobiography

Complete the Autobiography page that corresponds with the current vocabulary.

1. Start a fresh page in your spiral. Do not use the back side of a page. Follow directions for each page. Use colored pencils or markers for writing. No pencil or regular ink.

2. Ask for help. Use cups to let teacher know what you need.

3. When done, put blue cup up to get signed off on sheet.

Reading

Read the paragraph or sentences and complete the questions or exercise that follows.

Conversation

Find a partner and learn conversation in the yellow pages of the book for the vocabulary being learned.

Written Exercise

F - Make Flashcards

Make and practice flashcards with a artner or on your own using the correct steps for both.

1. Decide what 10 words you need help with. Make a flashcard for each of those words.

• When you write the vocabulary, be sure that you cannot read through the card or that will defeat the purpose in having the card.

• Using a pencil or colored pencil works well. Colored pencils are also good if you want them to color code feminine/masculine nouns or by parts of speech.

• Write one Spanish / French word on one side and the English on the other side.

1. Divide into pairs or threes.

2. Get all supplies listed.

Survey

Read the directions and complete the survey by asking 10 of your classmates one of the questions on the from the current vocabulary list.

1. Read through the questions making sure you understand the questions and can pronounce them correctly.

2. Ask for help if you don't understand them or need pronunciation help.

• Head a sheet of paper with your name in the language.

• Copy one of the questions from the current vocabulary list at the top of your page that you want to ask.

• Number 1-10.

• Go around the room and ask 10 people that question and record their answers (names) next to the numbers 1-10.

• Have them initial next to their answers.

Comic Strip

Using cartoon figures of your choice (people, animals, etc.), illustrate and write a four to eight-frame comic strip using the book conversation or making up your own conversation using the current vocabulary.

Practice Flashcards in Class

1. Go through the flashcards as follows.

• Have the English or picture side up. Go through your cards and sort them into 3 piles.

• A - you know right away

B - you don’t know right away, you have to think about it (5-15 seconds)

• C - you don’t know and have to look on the other side of the card.

• Pick up the B and C piles and go through them again.

• Keep doing this until they all go in the A pile.

• When they are in the A pile, turn them over so the Target language side is facing up. Go through the same procedure as above.

• Pick up the B and C piles and go through them again.

• Keep doing this until they all go in the A pile.

• Shuffle your cards each time you use them. If you always review your cards in the same order, you can start to remember words just from the order
