183d Fighter Wing Redesignated as 183d WingIn a ceremony held Saturday, the 183d Fighter Wing was redesignated as the 183d Wing, another step in the evolution of the nearly 70 year old unit. The ceremony was also used to celebrate the accomplishments of over 170 members of the Wing, who have been deployed to various locations over the past two years.Members of the 183d Fighter Wing salute as the unit is redesignated as the 183d Wing, a name reflective of its diverse missions. The name change followed the Wing’s transition from a fighter unit to the next echelon in military aviation, which includes major engine repair and command and control of air operations. The Air Operations Group is responsible for conducting command and control in a deployed location, and is the primary tool used by deployed commanders to execute air, space, and cyber power. The jet engine Centralized Repair Facility (CRF) is responsible for maintaining F110- GE-100 and F110-GE-129 engines used by the F-16 and A-10 aircrafts, not only for the Guard, but for the active duty Air Force as well.In the past two years, the 183d has deployed over 170 members with a wide array of specialties, in support of operations around the globe. Members of the 183d Civil Engineering Squadron, 183d Security Forces Squadron, 217th Engineering Installation Squadron, and most recently, the 183d Air Operations Group, deployed to various theaters of operation and served honorably in the course of their duties.Col.
