|Tomorrow we’re going to read a story about Sam and Ed. It is almost the end of the school year and the friends are trying to make plans about what they should do when school is over for the summer. Their friend |

|Ann finds them sitting in a tree and they decide to go fly kites with Ann and come up with their plan later. While the friends were flying kites Ann thought of a great plan! Have you ever made plans with your |

|friends about what to do or how to do something? What kind of plans did you make? |

|Word Introduction: |( 1-2 minutes |

|Here are some words we will read in tomorrow’s story. |

|(Touch the word, say it, have students repeat. Use the same procedure with remaining words. |

|( Call on individual children randomly to read the words independently. |

|Introduce word meanings: |( 5-10 minutes |

|(Touch and read the sentence with the students: 1. “That is fine with me,” said Ed, “but making plans is not my best trait.” |

| |

|A trait is something about a person that makes them who they are. Traits can be things like being funny or being bossy. Some traits are good and some traits are not so good. |

|I’m going to read a list of traits. Put your thumb up if the trait I say is one you like. |

|When fruit is ready to be eaten we say that it is ripe. What is your favorite kind of ripe fruit? |

|When something sails with the wind it means that it flew high in the air. So, if a kite sailed high with the wind, what does that mean? |

|( Correction Procedure: If students make an error, stop them, model the word and have them read it again. |
