Assessment - Galileo Educational Network

[Pages:1]Assessment

What does effective assessment look like in an early learning environment?

? Children are making their own judgments about their achievements, developing their own sense of what counts as good work.

? Children are self-regulating. This means they are self-assessing and giving themselves instructions about what to do. They see mistakes as part of the process of learning.

? They decide what should be recorded in their assessment portfolios. They can use this work later in order to judge their progress. They are also encouraged to revisit their portfolios often, with or without their teacher.

? There are resources and materials that provide feedback to children on their performance. For example, a puzzle they work to complete.

? Children are also given the opportunity to use materials that provide reference points against which to assess their achievements.
