Program for GiftedGifted In-Field Endorsement RegistrationWelcome to the DeKalb County School District (DCSD) Gifted In-Field Endorsement Program registration. Please note that this registration is only open to certified teachers employed by DCSD. Registration for the 2016-2017school year will close Thursday, October 13, 2016. Space is limited and will be awarded on a first come first serve basis.The DCSD Gifted In-Field Endorsement Program consists of the four courses: Nature and Needs Curriculum Program and StrategiesMeasurement and AssessmentMethods and MaterialsThe Gifted In-Field Endorsement Program includes, but not limited to: field experiences and clinical practices.Teachers registering for this program will become part of a cohort of other teachers throughout the four courses. Please note that these courses are graduate level classes, which require high levels of participation and attendance. The four 50-hour classes (200 hours) are the equivalent to 20 PLUs. Participants are required to bring a $50.00 refundable money order made payable to DeKalb County School District at the beginning of each course. These funds will be held until the end of the endorsement program. If any participant drops the class or fails to pass with 80%, the deposit will not be returned. All interested applicants must register with CaseNex no later than Thursday, October 13, 2016 at: a valid, clear and renewable Georgia Certification (a copy of the certification must be obtained through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission website ).Submit an Administrator Evaluation for Teacher Candidate form or a letter of recommendation to be completed by your principal. Write a five-paragraph essay explaining why you would like to obtain your gifted in-field endorsement certification. Provide a copy of CaseNex Registration ConfirmationAll documents must be sent to the Gifted Office as a complete packet with a copy of the Gifted Endorsement Application Checklist Form no later than Thursday, October 13, 2016. Any incomplete packets will not be submitted for processing. The online endorsement courses require each candidate to complete 200 hours of coursework (the equivalent of 20 professional learning units-PLUs), which includes field experiences and a clinical practice. During the course of a complete year, candidates participate in four courses: Nature and Needs of the Gifted Learner, Curriculum Program and Strategies for the Gifted Learner, Methods and Materials for the Gifted Learner, and Measurement and Assessments of the Gifted Learner. A description of each course follows:Nature and Needs/Characteristics of the Gifted Learner is the first in the four-course series. It focuses on examining and understanding the characteristics of gifted children, knowing state mandated identification procedures/eligibility criteria and discovering the variety of ways the needs of gifted students can be met. Curriculum Program and Strategies for the Gifted Learner(Part 1) is part one of a two-part series on examining, developing and evaluating a variety of curricula appropriate for gifted students, identifying and analyzing gifted program and delivery models, and becoming familiar with, planning and using strategies appropriate for meeting the needs of gifted students.Methods and Materials for the Gifted Learner (Part 2) is the second part of the series in examining, developing, and evaluating a variety of curricula appropriate for gifted students, identifying and analyzing gifted programs and delivery models, and becoming familiar with, planning and using strategies appropriate for meeting the needs of gifted students. Educational Measurement and Assessment for the Gifted Learner focuses on developing competence in understanding basic assessment terminology, developing, using and interpreting both traditional and performance assessment instruments, and understanding current issues, trends, policies and practices in assessment as they relate to gifted students.
