Dear Students,

This letter is to welcome you all to my Math 053 Geometry Class Online. I am very excited about working with all of you and helping you better understand the Basics and the core concepts of geometry.

Below, you will find full instructions on how to access the course and get started. It is not necessary to meet with me before beginning the course. However, If you would prefer, I will be available by appointment to help you get started. Please note that this is not a WEBCT or a Coursecompass course. This is a Mathxl course.

MathXL is an interactive website where you can:

• Receive step-by-step help to successfully solve math problems.

• Study more efficiently with a personalized study plan and exercises that match your book.

• Get help when YOU need it. MathXL includes multimedia learning aids, like videos and animations.

Before You Begin:

To register for MathXL you will need:

← A MathXL student access code (packaged with your new text at the OCC bookstore, or available for purchase with a major credit card at

← Your school’s zip code: _______________60016___________

← A valid email address

In addition, you will need the following course ID

← “Course ID”: XL0I-010A-601Y-9SV2

Student Registration:

• If you bought the textbook in the OCC bookstore, go to and click the Register button under “First Time User?”

• If you plan to purchase online access only, click Buy Now and follow the on-screen instructions to buy access and register.

• Read the License Agreement and Privacy Policy and click “I Accept.”

• On the Access Information Screen, you’ll be asked whether you already have a Pearson Education Account. Click:

- “YES” if you have registered for other Pearson online products and already have a login name and password. Boxes will appear for you to enter your existing login information.

- “NO” if this is the first time you have registered for a Pearson online product. Boxes will appear for you to create your login name and password.

- “NOT SURE” if you want to check for a pre-existing account and receive an email with your login name and password.

• Type in your Access Code (from the Student Access Kit if bought in bookstore) in the fields provided (one “word” per field) and click Next.

• Follow the registration screens and enter your information as prompted (your name, email address, school information and a security question/answer).

Once your registration is complete, you will see a Confirmation screen (this information is emailed to you). Once you have registered, click Log In to continue enrolling in your instructor’s course grade book.

Logging In:

• Go to , enter the login name and password you just created, and click Log In.

• Click the Enter MathXL button.

• The first time you log in to MathXL, you must enroll in your instructor's course.

o Select " I am taking a course that is using MathXL and need to enroll in my instructor’s course" and then enter your Course ID (shown above in red) in the fields provided.

• Click the Enroll button.

• Run the Browser Check to install any plug-ins or players your computer needs to see everything in MathXL. After completing the installation process, close the wizard and you will be on your course home page!

In addition, you can work on homework problems and if you need help, you can click on the, “help me solve this” key and you will get a step by step solution.
