Core Math 8 with Mrs. Gaines

Classroom Guidelines and Expectations

Class Schoology Site:

• To find any and all pertinent information about this class, use the class Schoology site at:

westerville.

Attendance:

• Arrive on time

All tardies will be recorded and the consequences are as follows (for each quarter):

Tardy 3 times: Morning detention & Parent email

Tardy 5 times: After school detention & Parent email

Every 2nd time after: After school detention & Parent email

• Limit class interruptions

If you must leave during class for any reason, you must give me one of the four passes you receive at the beginning of each quarter and sign out at the student center. Once your passes are gone, you may no longer leave during class for any reason, so use your passes sparingly!

• Limit absences

If you must be absent from class, please make every effort to inform me PRIOR to your absence if possible. It is your responsibility to present me with your pass and inform me of your return. Please use the class Schoology site and student center to gather missing work and prepare for any missed assessments.

Assignments (homework, class work, quizzes, tests, and projects)

• Complete all assignments fully and thoughtfully

I only give assignments that I find essential to the coursework, therefore, if you do not complete an assignment, you are missing out on an integral part of the coursework, and incomplete assignments will be reflected in your grade. Homework will only be given full credit if all questions and show all work (including work done on calculator)—homework is always graded for accuracy.

• Homework Review

After completing your homework, you are required to use the class Schoology site to check your work. Each night homework is assigned, you will:

✓ Complete the entire homework assignment, showing all work

✓ Check answers from the answer key document on class Schoology site

✓ Review and correct incorrect answers by viewing videos from class Schoology site

• Turn in assignments on time

Each student receives one “homework pass” per quarter. This grants the student an additional school day to complete any homework assignment. Use these passes only in an emergency situation; if you lose your pass or have already used yours for the quarter, additional time will not be given for any assignment regardless of the circumstance.

• Make up all missed assignments

In the event you are absent, you will certainly miss assignments. Anything you missed will be listed and worksheets filed in the student center and on the class Schoology site. It is your responsibility to check there upon your return, then to come see me so I may go over what was missed and set up time to make up classwork, quizzes, or tests.

You must turn in late assignments to Mrs. Gaines’ hands with “ABSENT” written across the top within the same amount of time you were absent. (absent two days= two days to complete work)

Grades

• Keep track of your grade

Please check your grade on Power School often during the quarter. If there is ever a question or discrepancy, it is your responsibility to come see me to fix the problem within 1 school day of the grade posting.

• Review the grade earned

If you ever have a question or concern regarding a grade on a specific assignment or assessment, come see me within 1 school day of receiving the assignment back to discuss the issue.

• Grade break down:

Individual Tests………70%

Team Tests…………….15%

Homework……….……10%

Participation……………5%

Supplies

• Bring all necessary supplies to class everyday

Each day you will need:

- Your binder that contains all math material (worksheets, homework, etc.)

- Your math workbook

- 2 pencils (w/erasers!)

- Blank graph paper

**As noted in the “Attendance” section, you are given only four passes to leave the classroom each quarter. If you are out of passes and have neglected to bring a supply to class, you will not be permitted to leave class to retrieve it; this will affect what you can accomplish in class and may also ultimately affect your grade.

Electronics

• Use technology appropriately

All hardware and software may only be used for accessing material for use in class as directed by Mrs. Gaines.

Student owned electronics: If a student is using their electronics for any other purpose, the item will be confiscated and given to the office. Additionally, Mrs. Gaines is not responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronics.

School owned electronics: If a student is using school technology for any other purpose, suspension from use of those electronics, detention, or other consequences could result.

Discipline

• Follow directions given in class

Any disruptive behavior will be dealt with following the school-wide discipline plan, which is listed as follows:

1. Student will receive verbal warning from the teacher.

2. If behavior continues, student will receive an office referral.

3. If behavior persists, or becomes more disruptive student will be immediately sent

to the office.

Plagiarism

• Do your own work

Plagiarism, cheating or academic dishonesty is unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Any of these actions will result in a zero grade for the assignment, a meeting with the student and their parent will be held, and further academic consequences will be discussed.
