Taking cliché phrases and giving them a “makeover”
This exercise is to help you become accustomed to using the Thesaurus component of MS Word. To use the Thesaurus, first select a word. An easy way to select a single word is to double-click the word. When the word is selected, go to the Tools menu, slide down to Language, then over to Thesaurus. A shortcut method is to depress the Shift key then tap F7. Practice with the word below:

After you are sure you have no questions about using the Thesaurus, change the sentences below. Only use words that you find in the thesaurus. Resist the temptation to throw in words you know. Be prepared to share your work with the class.
