POSITION DESCRIPTIONGRAPHIC DESIGNER(Priority Industries Resources Project) We are looking for employees of integrity, who are exceptionally high performers and can work collaboratively towards the achievement of our 2020 Vision of being ‘an Institute, Workplace and Partner of Choice’ ABOUT THE ROLEOverviewThe Graphic Designer is accountable for the design and development of high quality, learner centric print based and online (Moodle) learning content and activities in collaboration with the project’s Learning Designers, Instructional Designers, Subject Matter Experts (SME’s), and Education Consultants.The role requires a strong commitment to enhancing the learning journey through active learning experiences and creative approaches in blended learning program design and delivery. The role requires substantial experience in desktop publishing and some experience in the production of multimedia content within the VET sector and an understanding of current design trends for print based materials and multimedia design. Working with a diverse stakeholder group, the incumbent will use their design and VET sector experience to ensure any content or resources created for the project are industry compliant, workplace relevant, prepared according to set design briefs and project style guide requirements and meet ASQA, Standards for Registered Training in Organisations (SRTOs) 2015 and other regulatory standards.Funding has been provided by the Victorian Government for the development of a suite of high quality, modern resources across a number of key industries that reflect current technologies and modern work practices “to capture the generic skills and customer centric aspects of contemporary trade’s roles and to pick up technology changes including the digitising of platforms. These materials will be made freely available to the VET community via DET contract providers. Specifically, Chisholm Institute will lead the development of resources for core units of competency in the following Australian Training Packages’ qualifications:Certificate III in PlumbingCertificate III in Electro technology (Electrician)Certificate III in CarpentryCertificate III in HairdressingCertificate III in Engineering – FabricationCertificate III in Engineering – MechanicalCertificate III in Cabinet MakingThe incumbent is a key and active participant in the Vocational Education Excellence and Development business area, providing their graphic design expertise and support in the development of fit for purpose educational courseware design contextualised to the known student cohorts for each course. Key AccountabilitiesOperational Management Ensure consistency with the Child Safe Standards and respond in accordance with Institute’s policies and agreed practices Design and ProductionWork collaboratively with Instructional Designers, Learning Designers, Education Consultants and SMEs to create visual concepts, using computer software or by hand, ensuring graphic design content is appropriate to the target learner cohort With awareness of the target learner cohort, design and develop content that effectively engages learners in course content Implement and embed learning design and development practices to enhance learner outcomes Implement design solutions that are creative, appropriate and consistent with the Project vision and objectives Creatively problem solve using knowledge acquired through relevant experience.Maintain awareness and familiarity with emerging technologies to utilise the tools required to maximise product qualityCoordinate design files and support digital archiving and systemsCoordinate work schedule and coordinate production of design deliverables, and when required oversee installation of display graphicsDemonstrated ability to balance multiple, varied projects simultaneously and meet objectives within set deadlines with high-level accuracy and attention to detailFollow style guides to ensure graphic design quality and consistency is applied to all project documentation.Capacity and desire to keep up-to-date with changes in digital technology, learn new software packages and adapt knowledge as appropriateDemonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills Quality AssuranceEnsure that the highest quality is maintained for all project products and documentationDetect and correct technical design elements Correct confusing or ambiguous text and inconsistencies in languageIn collaboration with the Project Editor, use knowledge of layout principles to allocate space for text, photos, graphics and illustrationsUse agreed style guides, including designs and coloursLiaise with Project Coordinator to manage document folder structuresMaintain the integrity of all content to the highest standard in order to ensure the Project, Chisholm and key stakeholder reputations remains strong in the marketplacePeople & Team Work within a culture of achievement that acknowledges the input of others Maintain a safe, positive and productive work environment free from discrimination, bullying and harassment Promote the vision and goals of the organisation and project, both internally and externally, with professionalism and enthusiasm Demonstrated ability to build strong collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholdersInnovation and Continuous Improvement Guided by the Project Leads, ensure that the resources are compliant against ASQA and other regulatory standardsAssist in product evaluation and obtain feedback from stakeholders for the continuous improvement of courseware related development ABOUT USChisholm is Victoria’s premier public vocational education and training provider, with campuses located across Melbourne and the south east.
