Cereal Box Project

Now that you have read your summer reading books, it's time to sell one of them to our class! You will do this by creating your own cereal box project pertaining to the book. The following guidelines will help you create an enticing cereal and eye-catching box that will convince the members of your class to choose your book over all the rest!

OVERALL DESIGN:

Use white or light colored paper to cover your cereal box (you will probably want

to design everything before gluing the paper on your box).

Be creative, neat, and make your cereal box eye-catching but easy to read. Good use of mechanics (spelling, grammar, and punctuation).

FRONT OF BOX (hook your audience/buyers):

Include the name of the cereal and a picture. Invent a name for the cereal that is related to the title of the book and sounds

like a cereal (do not use the exact title of the book).

Choose a shape for the cereal as well as colors and ingredients that all relate to the book (for

example, for Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, you might invent a cereal called Wizard Wands, a toasted oat cereal in the shape of mini lightning bolts).

Since cereal boxes often include a prize, you should include a picture of your cereal's prize to

let the reader know what's inside (your prize must be something the main character could have used in the book or something that reminds you of the main character).

RIGHT SIDE (list of ingredients):

Under the heading "Ingredients," list the main characters and write a few

sentences about each one that explains something important they did in the book or why they were important.

LEFT SIDE (important events):

List at least 3 important events in the story. Underneath that, write what the main problem was in the story and how it

was solved at the end.

Try to use words that will "grab" readers' attention and make them want to buy your cereal.

BACK OF BOX (game):

Design a game that is based on the story (it can be a puzzle, a word search, a

word scramble, a maze, a crossword puzzle, a hidden pictures illustration, or any other fun activity that might be found on the back of a cereal box but make sure it includes information from the book).

TOP OF BOX (book basics and critique):

Include the title, author, number of pages, and number of stars you would give

this book if you were a book critic (the maximum number of stars would be 5).

You must also include a brief critique (what you liked or disliked) about the story.
