FAIRVIEW FAMILY NEWS

Home is the beginning point of everything. Here, life makes up its mind. It is not just the beginning place of biological life, but of moral, ethical, mental, spiritual, and emotional life as well. Parents have the first opportunity to affect the feelings, beliefs, and ideas of their child.

Jesus answered and said to him, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him.

SNAK & YAK

TONIGHT

This week marks our ninth anniversary of “Bring your sandwiches ~ chips and drinks will be provided.” Many of you have been ultra faithful to attend and share food and fellowship. Thanks, so much, for your encouragement and comradery. That March in 2010, we heard from Sue Collins, Hershel Johnson, Philip Nyamor and Hellen Odhiambo. Since then we have heard from nearly every adult member. It was exciting to hear about work experiences and especially how they came to know the Lord. If anyone would like to share at any Snak & Yak, please let me know. Snak & Yak Fellowship, what a great way to keep ‘Growing in Love with God, the Lost and One-Another.”

A Prayer on Forgiveness

Lord, I struggle sometimes with forgiveness. Help me to extend forgiveness to others just as You have extended forgiveness to me. Even on days when it’s hard, when I’m angry, when I’m hurt, when I don’t see change

. . . even then, show me how to forgive.

In Jesus Name, Amen

Bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. ~ Colossians 3:13

Philippians 2:9-11

Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sins.

Christian Attitude

I am grateful for who God is in my life and for what He’s done. I will not take for granted the people, the opportunities, and the favor He has blessed me with. I will look at what is right and not what is wrong. I will thank Him for what I have and not complain about what I don’t have. I will see each day as a gift from God. My heart will overflow with praise and gratitude for all of His goodness.

Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.  Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others. Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus

~ Philippians 2:3-5

WARM FUZZIES OR WORDS THAT ENCHANT

Jerry Whitmire

God chose words to reveal His will to us. One exciting thing about words is their connotation as compared to their denotation. The denotation of a word is the exact meaning. The connotation is “The suggested meaning apart from its explicit meaning.” In other words, what a word causes you to ‘feel’ or think about. For instance the word ‘Home’ has a definite meaning or denotation. However, what it makes you ‘feel’ is far more important.

There are some other words with great connotations. I like the word ‘Enchanting’. It means “Charming, Fascinating, to Delight greatly.” The denotation is good, but when you think of someone or something that is ‘enchanting’ to you, it causes more than a cerebral synapse, it causes a smile, a glow, perhaps even the warm ‘fuzzies’. If you are so sterile you can never experience the warm fuzzies occasionally, you are to be pitied! Not all connotations are meant to cause warm fuzzies. Some are for instruction. Some are for correction. Some are for reflection.

Another word I like is the word ‘Forgive’. I can be instructed that God has forgiven me. I can be corrected by His word when I fail to forgive others. I can reflect as I try to drink deeply at the source of this forgiveness which is God Himself.

Yes, this word can instruct and correct. First comes the intellectual pursuit to understand, and then the effort to accept and to practice. Ultimately, there comes the emotional response. I can get very excited over God’s forgiveness for me (Can’t you feel the warm fuzzies coming on?)! I think the word ‘FORGIVEN’ is an Enchanting word.

There are many others, but one stands above all the rest . . . JESUS. “There’s just something about that word, something about that NAME.”

JESUS . . . What a great way to keep growing in love with God, the Lost, and One-Another.
