Virtual Band-Aid Activity

Provide the following scenarios virtually, using the images and/or descriptions. Directions: Imagine that you are a doctor at a walk-in clinic. You have six patients waiting to see you. Read about (or look at) each one below. Ask students the questions at the bottom of the page. Patient 1: A child has a cut on his lip from falling in the bathtub.

Patient 2: An adult male has been suffering for days with a headache.

Patient 3: A young girl has a very red sore throat; you suspect she has strep throat.

Patient 4: A woman has a runny nose and fever.

Patient 5: An adult male is complaining of an earache.

Patient 6: A soccer player rolled his ankle; it is sprained.

Part of your training as a doctor is to treat EVERYONE EQUALLY. Therefore, your recommended treatment for each patient is to give them a band-aid.

1. Answer the following questions about your treatment of patients: a. Was everyone treated equally? Give at least two examples. b. Was everyone treated fairly? Give at least two examples. For example, a band-aid for a headache is not a "fair treatment" for a headache.

2. Consider and provide one example or non-example of when you have a. experienced equality b. when they have experienced fairness.
