A Tale of a Kindergarten Music Class
A Tale of a Kindergarten Music Class
2, 4, 6, 8 Meet me at the garden gate (as students enter)
All: Let’s hear the story!
Once upon a time, there was the most wonderful kindergarten class in the whole world, and they loved music very much. Every Monday, Tuesday and Friday the kids in Mrs. Szabo and Mrs. Goesel’s rooms would joyfully wait for the arrival of Miss Harshbarger and her magic cart. On her cart were many wonderful toys, pictures and best of all musical instruments. Miss Harshbarger would come in, join the kindergartners in their circle and say:
This is my speaking voice.
This is my whisper voice.
This is my shouting voice.
This is my silent voice.
This is my singing voice.
Hello Kindergarteners. Hello Miss Harshbarger
Hello Girls. Hello Boys. Hello everyone.
After the greeting, Miss Harshbarger began to tell the story of little Sally Walker. The children listened eagerly to one of their favorite songs.
Little Sally Walker (show video of students playing game while students perform movements) 4x
Little Sally Walker decided to stop her pouting. She stood up, wiped out her weepy eyes and walked towards the window. She looked at the sun and flew towards it!
Sally Go Round the Sun (6x getting faster each time)
After Sally circled the sun, the moon and the chimney top many times she became very tired.
Sally Go Round the Sun (1x slowly)
Sally went around the sun, moon and chimney top so slowly that when she flew by the moon she was able to see somebody on it! This person looked very unusual. Who could this be? All: Aiken Drum
Aiken Drum (accompany with Autoharp)
Although Aiken Drum was made of food, he was very friendly. Sally sat down on the moon with Aiken Drum and talked about all she had done. Aiken Drum said, “You can make it better, just catch a shooting star and make a wish.” So they did.
Starlight Star bright (students collect stars to beat)
After collecting many shooting stars, Sally felt much better. She thanked Aiken Drum for being a good friend and made her wish. Sally wished that she could spend the day with a real queen! Suddenly she was standing inside a gorgeous castle!
Queen Queen Caroline (with movements)
Queen Caroline was a lovely young lady. She loved nothing more than to admire her beautiful, shiny crown. So Queen Caroline would carry a tiny mirror with her so she could look at her crown:
Queen Queen (normal)
When Queen Caroline’s mother would wake her up in the morning for school, a very sleepy Queen Caroline would check her crown in the mirror and say,
Queen Queen (slowly)
Queen Caroline’s mother would shout hurry up! Then Queen Caroline moved a little faster.
Queen fast
Finally Queen Caroline made it to school. She still wanted to admire her shiny crown, so when her teacher wasn’t looking she would sneak a peak of her crown in her mirror.
Queen soft
When school was over, Queen Caroline would go home to her castle and spend the rest of the day admiring her beautiful crown.
Queen loud
After spending the day with a queen, Sally decided that was enough. She still had stars in her pocket for more wishes. Holding a warm star in her hand, Sally wished she could live in the forest with her favorite animal, the squirrel. Before she knew it, she was standing face to face with an adorable gray squirrel.
Gray Squirrel (with movement)
When the squirrel was finished swishing his big bushy tail, he started to hop. Sally joined the fun!
Hop Old Squirrel (video) Hop, March, Climb, Dance, Swim, Run, Tip-toe
Soon several more squirrel friends joined the fun. This time they were not hopping, but chasing.
Let Us Chase the Squirrel (4x video)
Sally climbed to the top of the hickory tree. When she reached the top, she looked down and saw the squirrels playing. She looked out into the distance. Along the horizon she saw a Native American tribe and the great chief walking steadily throughout the village. Sally held tightly to one more of her stars and wished to meet the great Indian chief Hiawatha.
Hiawatha (Teacher will direct students to stop then narrator will read)
Hiawatha walked steadily throughout his village all day long, making sure everything was in order. Sometimes his beautiful wife would join him. She was very tiny and would take twice as many steps as Hiawatha to keep up with him.
Pretty Little Minihaha
At the end of the day, Chief Hiawatha was very tired. He would walk slowly back to his wigwam.
Wigwam
Sally joined Chief Hiawatha and enjoyed walking with him throughout his land.
Hiawatha
Seeing the children in Hiawatha’s tribe playing with their families made Sally feel very homesick. She missed her own family very much, but she was so far away from home. Sally had one more star in her pocket. She picked up the star, help it close to her heart and wished that she could go home. Suddenly a woman appeared in front of her. “Hi, I’m Julianne Johnson, and I’m here to help you go home. I hope you don’t mind if we make a little stop first.” Sally did not mind at all.
Miss Julianne Johnson
After her fun afternoon with Julie, Sally said her goodbyes. The train was still there and she hopped onto Engine Number 9. Sally really enjoyed her adventures, but was still very excited to go home. She couldn’t wait to tell her family and friends of her adventures!
Engine No. 9
And with that, music class was over and the kindergartners in Mrs. Szabo and Mrs. Goesel’s classes waved goodbye to Miss Harshbarger and she went off on her merry way!
