In School Suspension Rules and Responsibilities

1. Abide by all the rules and regulations of the Anderson County Schools as stated in the Student Handbook.

2. All in school suspension days run from 8:00 to 3:10 on regular school days. Students are to report directly to the school foyer in front of the gym upon arrival.

3. Students must do lessons that have been provided for them by their regular classroom teachers. Students also are required to complete any assignment given by the I.S.S staff.

4. Students will work at all times. There is NO downtime in school suspension.

5. There is to be no verbal/nonverbal communication of any kind between I.S.S students and any other students. Communication is not limited to talking, but includes passing of material, eye contact, and smiles, etc.

6. Do not get out of seats without permission. Sit up straight with feet flat on the floor.

7. If help is needed on homework you will ask for permission to talk by a raised hand.

8. Voices are to be kept low and calm at all times. The showing of anger, disgust, etc. will not be tolerated.

9. Students are expected to keep their area clean and all materials off the floor. Book bags are not allowed at students’ desk.

10. NO food, drinks, chewing gum, etc. will be allowed in school suspension.

11. Lunch will be served in the cafeteria and brought back to the room.

12. Students will be able to use the restroom located in the room. Students will ask to use the restroom and may only go one at a time. Flush what you use.

13. When in school suspension moves as a class, students are to walk in a straight single or double line as directed with proper spacing between students. Walk with hands to sides, not folded or in pockets. Hats are not allowed inside or outside.

14. In school suspension aides are a part of I.S.S staff and are to be treated with respect and obeyed. At no time is an I.S.S aide to suffer verbal, physical, or any other kind of stress or abuse in school by any present or former in school suspension student.

15. All staff members must be treated in a polite manner and when speaking to them, the use of “ma’am” or “sir” is expected.

16. Any absence will be unexcused unless approved by the office and must be made up. An additional day in I.S.S will be assigned for each unexcused absence.

17. Students suspended from in school suspension finish their day upon return to school.

18. Days in school suspension are not limited to those originally assigned.

19. A student that does not make a sincere effort to correct their behavior or violates the rules or regulations and the intent of the program, may be suspended from I.S.S and a recommendation for expulsion may be forwarded to the superintendent.

20. Students will be accountable for self-control, respect, and responsibility at all times during in school suspension assignment.
