PAPER CLIPS Documentary, Study Guide, Book, & Distance Learning Programs

The Jeff Kedson Foundation in conjunction with the Greater Philadelphia Section of the National Council of Jewish Women has donated DVD copies of the documentary movie PAPER CLIPS , the book Six Million Paper Clips: The Making of a Children’s Holocaust Memorial by Peter W. Schroeder & Dagmar Schroeder-Hildebrand plus a study guide for grades 6-12. The Delaware County Intermediate Unit is being asked to distribute this material to public middle schools and high schools in Delaware County.

This inspiring story of the children and principal of Whitwell Middle School, Whitwell TN tells how citizens from a small, rural, non-diverse community proceeded to launch a project in response to studying about World War II and the Holocaust that raised the level of diversity awareness in their isolated community. Through their project they collected one paper clip for each person exterminated by the Nazis. The community expanded the project by obtaining a boxcar that had been used to transport the Holocaust victims. They turned this boxcar into a memorial filled with the 11 million paper clips.

Videoconferencing and webinars will also be used throughout the yearlong project to expand the learning and as a vehicle for educators and students to share their experiences with the material and resources.
