This course includes standards from the conceptual categories of Number and Quantity, Algebra, Functions, Geometry, and Statistics and Probability. The scope of Mathematics I is limited to linear and exponential expressions and functions as well as some work with absolute value, step, and functions that are piecewise-defined (from California Common Core State Standards Mathematics). You are expected to take responsibility for your own learning and to do your best. To achieve maximum performance, you must:?follow the teacher’s directions the first time they are given.?come to class on-time and prepared. This means that you are quietly seated when the bell rings and have all appropriate materials ready.?take complete and organized notes during class.?actively participate in all class activities (written and verbal, individual think time, collaborative group discussion and presentation, whole group instruction etc...)?complete all assignments in a thorough, organized, and timely manner.?always act in a respectful manner toward others.? ask thoughtful questions?seek help earlyWhile in class you will not be allowed to eat, drink or chew gum. It is also not permitted to use any personal electronic devices during class, especially on test day. This includes, but is not limited to, cell phones, iPods, etc. If any of these items are out on a student desk or being used during class, they will be confiscated and given to the school administrators from whom you will have to retrieve the item. REQUIRED COURSE MATERIALS AND SUPPLIES:?Textbook: Integrated CME Project Mathematics 1, Pearson, 2009.?Supplies: At least two #2 pencils with erasers at all times, a three-ring binder with dividers (folder), two of 120 page-notebook, graph paper, line papers, and a scientific calculator (TI ’84 preferred).?A few assignments require the use of computer during and outside of class. Each student must have proper signatures on the “Netbooks and Cart Student Use Agreement” in order to be permitted to use the netbooks in the classroom. Failure to do so in a timely manner may result in loss of credit for the computer-related assignments.GRADING POLICY:? Homework will be checked periodically for accuracy, completeness and organization. It is your responsibility to check for accuracy and to ask for assistance if you do not understand the concepts. Homework solutions to selected problems will be discussed in class. You must attempt all problems, show all work (including multiple-choice questions), and correct your mistakes to receive full credit on any assignment. No make-up assignments, quizzes or tests will be allowed for tardiness and unexcused absences. If you participate in a fieldtrip, athletic or extracurricular activity, or any other planned event that prevents you from attending class, you must make arrangements to complete and submit the required assignments that are due on that day in advance. Late work will be accepted for partial credit (50% of the original points) until the unit test is given. Once the unit test is given, late work will no longer be accepted with the exception of an excused absence.?Students are responsible for finding out and making up missed work when absent. However, some in-class activities such as group assignments or guest lectures are not replicable, and therefore, may not be made up. ?Academic Dishonesty: Any student guilty of academic dishonesty will receive a zero for that activity. That zero may not be dropped from the record and will be averaged into the student's grade. Upon a second instance of dishonesty in either semester of that course, the student will be removed from the course and receive a final grade of "F/U.” Please refer to the Student Information Packet for more details.The grading breakdown is as follows:? PowerSchool will be updated with current grades. The teacher will provide instructions in multiple ways (direct whole-group instruction, cooperative group activities, public debate or classroom discourse.) Students are expected to engage and do their best in these activities. On specific activities, students will be able to ask for help from teacher, co-teacher, and fellow students.One chapter/unit test may be retaken per semester. No quizzes, summative assessments, or end-of-semester exam may be retaken.CITIZENSHIP:Universal Tardy PolicyFirst week: Tardy grace period. One-on-one conference. The student follows classroom rules. The student generally submits work on time. The student may have no more than three tardies.Satisfactory:The student generally meets behavioral expectations. His/her participation is generally consistent. The student has turned in late work a few times. The student is sometimes inconsistent about following classroom rules. The student has been warned about a recurring unacceptable behavior and has sometimes corrected or changed his/her behavior. The student may have no more than five tardies. The student may have no more than one unexcused absence.NeedsImprovement:The student frequently exhibits disruptive behavior and fails to follow classroom rules.
