10th Grade Social Studies - Mr. Book's Classroom

World History and Geography-A

Content:

• The purpose of this required social studies class is to introduce students to the global events, which have shaped our world, since the time period of the 1000s, to the 1800s. During the first section of this course (Section A), the students will study themes such as the spread of world religions, the spread of the plague, the development of empires in Asia, Africa, Americas and Europe, the Crusades, and the trans-Atlantic slave trade. The students will also learn how geography plays and has played an important part of how people interact with each other.

Grading Scale:

• Assignments (25%) – These include reading and writing assignments, questions, etc.

• Tests (40%) – Tests are right from the notes, so an organized notebook is a huge advantage.

• Projects (15%) – Some are individual, and others are group. However, each student will always receive an individual grade.

• Participation (10%) – Answering and asking questions, coming to class, bringing materials, being attentive and contributing to group activities, etc.

• Class-work (10%) - This includes activities and work that take place in class, but are not graded as an assignment.

Classroom Rules:

• Bring all materials to class: book, charged iPad, pencil, etc. This impacts your participation grade.

• Be respectful to instructor, guests and other students.

• Inappropriate language will not be tolerated.

• No phones, backpacks or purses in class.

• Water is allowed in class, but please do not bring any other food or drink.

Remember…

• It is your responsibility to make up tests. The best time for this is before or after school, but I am willing to arrange for other times as well. Failure to arrange for a make-up could result in a zero.

• Be in class! Excessive absences, tardies, or hall pass use prevents you from properly participating, and will impact your grade. You will get 4 hall passes to use for the Trimester.

• Don’t abuse your iPad privileges! Any iPad violations in class will result in a discipline referral. This includes ANY non-educational games, youtube, or any other actions that distract from the educational environment.
