Solve all the questions:

1. State Newton’s law of gravitation and give its mathematical form.

2. Why Newton’s law of gravitation is called a universal law?

3. From Newton’s law of gravitation the value of G is given by G=Fr2/m1m2. If the distance between 2 masses is increased, will the value of G increase or decrease or remain constant?

4. Find the height above the surface of the earth at which the value of “g” becomes half. Radius of the earth = 6,400 km.

5. An object is thrown vertically upwards and rises to a height of 10 m. Calculate the velocity with which the object was thrown and the time taken by the object to reach the highest point.

6. Define mass and weight of a body. Which one of these is more fundamental and why?

7. The mass of 1 atom of an element X is 2 x 10-23 g. Calculate the atomic mass of element X What could element X be?

8. Calculate the number of moles in 12.044 x 1025 atoms of phosphorus.

9. Define: ions, radicals, atom, nucleus, valency, atomic mass and atomic number.

10. Write the chemical symbols and the valency of following elements, radicals or ions: carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, calcium, magnesium, sodium, chlorine, sulphur, sulphate, nitrate, carbonate, silicon, zinc, iron, cobalt, iodine, helium, manganese, fluorine and barium.

11. How are electrons arranged in an atom? The mass number of an element is 18. It contains 7 electrons. What is the number of protons and neutrons in it? What is the atomic number of the element?

12. An element Y has the valency of 4. Write the formula of its- chloride, oxide, carbonate, sulphate and nitrate.

Revise the chapters 1. Work and energy, 2. Atoms and molecules. There will be a class test, the day ,school reopens.
