Coffs Coast Dragon Boat Club

Tucker's Island Challenge - 3km

Saturday 14th September, 2019

Please arrive by 1:30pm, team briefing will be at 1:45pm sharp, racing will start at 2:00pm OTW.

A drummer is not required. You must have a minimum of 16 paddlers, with a maximum of 50% male paddlers, including juniors. Composite crews will be accepted but need to be arranged before the day.

The race is against time. There will be a staggered start, with a minimum time gap of 20 seconds between boats.

Your team paddle upstream on the left side of the island. There is a sand bar at the top of the island, depending on the tide and your team’s courage you may cut across the sand bar to shave some time (you may lose time if you run aground!).

There is a red MSB channel marker at the top of the island that you must pass, keeping this marker on the right side of your boat.

Continue paddling to the start/finish line to stop the clock.

Some notes on the race:

• If you catch up to another boat, you may only pass that boat if it is safe to do so.

• You must keep the boat you are passing on the right side of your boat. The boat being passed is closer to the island at all times.

• If your boat is being passed, stay on the island side of the passing boat.

• “ rescue boat will be on the water for your safety.

• Other recreational boats may be using the waterway.

• Be aware that oyster leases and old posts are close to the southern side of the island; keep clear of these obstacles.

• Results: Do not hassle the time keepers/officials for your race time, when you finish, as they are focused on other boats in the race. The winner will be announced at the end of the race and trophies presented at a social get-together at the conclusion of the mini marathon.

• The race time around the island is approximately 15 to 20 minutes.

• Do not compromise safety to win a race.

• There will be a take-home trophy awarded to the winning team and a perpetual trophy to retain until next year's event.

• When you finish your race, please dock and unload the boat as soon as possible so another team can load and be ready to start.
