On the stove, melt the grated soap into about 6 cups of boiling water. Then, add the Borax and washing soda and stir together. In a large bucket, combine this soap mixture with 2.5 quarts of hot water and continue to stir. Finally, add in one more gallon of water and let the mixture sit for at least 24 hours. Use a 1/2 cup in each load.* Borax, although a natural mineral, can be toxic to children and pets. Please keep out of their reach.Homemade Softscrub1/2 cup baking soda1/2 cup liquid dish detergent1/8 cup – 1/4 cup vinegarMix the baking soda and dish detergent first, then add the vinegar. Adjust the baking soda or vinegar amounts until you have the consistency you like working with.?Scouring Cleanser1/4 cup baking sodawater to dampenWorks well for a light scrub over faucets and light soil. You must rinse thoroughly, though! Baking soda can cling to surfaces.Sink and Tub Scrub? cup baking soda? cup kosher salt1-2 drops essential oil (Many essential oils are toxic to cats. If you have a cat, ask your vet before using any essential oils in your home.)Combine in a shaker bottle. For best results sprinkle on damp surface, let sit for a little while or over night, then lightly scrub with a rag or scrubber.Mold & Mildew Cleaner2 cups water1/4 cup vinegar1/8 cup tea tree oil (Toxic to cats - omit tea tree oil if you have a cat)Keep this mixture in a marked spray bottle - spray the shower floor with this every day to prevent mold and mildew. If it's already built up - first scrub with some baking soda/vinegar and then keep up with your Tea Tree spray daily.Odor-Free RinseInstead of adding fabric softener with artificial perfumes, add straight distilled white vinegar to your rinse cycle dispenser or to a softener-releasing ball.Using Hydrogen PeroxideHydrogen peroxide in a 3% solution applied to a rag can be used to clean benchtops and cutting boards to help kill salmonella and other bacteriaHalf fill a spray bottle with a 3% solution and then top it up with water for use as a bathroom and toilet disinfectant and cleaner. This is especially useful if you have a septic, greywater or blackwater treatment system as it won't harm the bacteria in the treatment areas - the hydrogen peroxide would have diluted to a point that renders it harmless by that stage through the interaction with flush water.Mix a 3% hydrogen peroxide solution with two parts water in a spray bottle and use on areas affected by mold. You can try a neat 3% solution for areas like bathroom tiling, but be careful on the strength in relation to painted items as it may bleach them.To help kill bacteria such as E. Coli on fruits and vegetables, add a quarter cup of 3% hydrogen peroxide to a sink full of cold water. Immerse, rinse with cold water and drain. By killing bacteria this will also help keep fruit and vegetables fresher for longer. You can also use a spray bottle containing a 50/50 mix of 3% hydrogen peroxide and water - just spray and rinse. ................
