Global Climate and the Four Seasons

As you all know, the Earth has many different weather patterns. But the question is, what causes these types of climate to happen? First off, our planet is covered with a thin layer of what we call, atmosphere. This layer is filled with many types of gases, and it helps the Earth not to get too hot or too cold. Then we have the oceans, a big body of water that fills up most of the Earth’s area. Water can absorb heat, cooling the Earth from the heat of the sun. Another thing that helps the planet cool down from the sun is the icebergs that are in the ocean. Icebergs are big blocks of ice that float on top of the water and it helps the ocean to not get hot.

Some vocabulary!

Since icebergs are white, they are able to reflect the sunlight back into the space. This mean that they the light that hits the ice bounces back into the direction it came from.

Seasons are the different times we have certain climate. Examples would be winter, spring, summer, and fall.

You may know winter as a time of snow and rain, which is correct! Usually during this time of year, the weather may be colder than usual and rain will be more common. Spring is when all the plants and animals spring into action! Most of the flowers and other plant organisms come out of hiding after a long and cold winter. The weather around this time is a little warmer, but you will sometimes still see some rain. Summer is when everyone goes to beach right? That’s because the weather is usually very hot and remember what you have learned earlier? Water absorbs the heat from the sun, so the beaches are usually cooler in temperature. This is the time to have fun in the sun! Lastly comes the fourth season, fall, or also called, autumn. This is when all the leaves from the trees fall to the ground and the weather begins to cool down. At this time, you are able to see some rain more often.

These are some pictures to remind you of the four seasons:
