CORRECT ERRORS:
Delete a Single Character:
Position pointer to right of the error and press the Back Space key
Position pointer to left of the error and press the Delete key
Delete Larger Amounts of Text:
Position the pointer at the edge of the text you wish to delete. Click and drag the mouse (holding down the left mouse button) to highlight the information. Release mouse button and press Delete
Tips for Selecting Text:
1. Press & hold the Shift key while pushing the right or left arrow keys to highlight text
2. To select 1 word, double click inside the word
3. To select a paragraph, triple click inside the paragraph
Overstrike:
Position the pointer at the edge of the text you wish to delete. Click and drag the mouse (holding down the left mouse button) to highlight the information. Release mouse button and begin to type the new information
Insert:
Position pointer to the right of where you wish to insert text and begin typing the new information
Insert new lines
Position pointer where you want to insert the new lines and press the Enter key
Insert vs. Replace Cursor: (press the Insert key to change from one to the other)
• The Replace Cursor causes text to the right of the cursor to disappear (be replaced) as you type
• The Insert Cursor causes text to the right of the cursor to move over as you type
Undo:
Under the Edit menu select Undo immediately after an incorrect keystroke
Place arrow on the left curved arrow in the shortcut menu and click left mouse button
Spell Check: (red squiggle underline)
• Click on ABC Check icon OR right click on red squiggle, underlined word
• Select the change to be made, add word to dictionary, or ignore
Grammar Check: (green squiggle underline)
• Click on ABC Check icon OR right click on green squiggle, underlined word
• Select the change to be made or ignore

Highlight or click in the word you would like to change

Alignment:
Options are left, center, right and justified (lined up on both the left & right margins)
Columns:
Columns can be applied to an entire page or to a selected portion of text within a page
Highlight the text to be placed in columns ( click the Columns button of the Toolbar
Select the number of columns desired (1-4) or hold down the left mouse button & drag to get more
Indent:
Highlight information to be indented
Use the 2 Toolbar buttons (to the right of the Bullet button) to decrease and increase the margin

Place cursor where you want the information placed

GRAPHICS
Inserting a Picture:
Position the cursor where the graphic is to be placed
Insert menu ( Picture ( Clip Art (add a photo – select From File & direct the computer to the file location)
Select a category to search OR use the Find function & enter a keyword--- click on graphic--- Insert
Resize a Picture:
Left click the mouse on the picture to select it
A frame appears around the picture with gripper handles (boxes) on the corners & sides
Position mouse pointer on a corner gripper handle & drag to be a different size
To distort the picture, drag from one of the side gripper handles
Alter a Picture:
• Select the picture & use the Picture Toolbar icons
• Control the picture contrast & brightness
• Crop away part of the picture, draw a border around the picture, & control the way text wraps around
Delete a Picture:
Select the picture by placing the mouse pointer on the graphic and left click
A frame will appear around the picture with gripper handles
Press the Delete key OR right click on the graphic & then left click on Cut (puts it on the clipboard)
WORDART
Insert Menu ( Picture ( WordArt
Select desired Style
Type the words to be turned into WordArt
The WordArt toolbar enables the following alterations:
Insert another WordArt object, Edit the existing text, WordArt Gallery to change styles, Format Painter to change colors & wrapping options, Abc to change WordArt shape, Rotation button to rotate the WordArt box, WordArt same letter heights, WordArt vertical text tool, WordArt alignment button, & character spacing tool
WordArt can be resized and moved after it has been created
TABLES
Table Menu ( Insert Table ( Determine the number of rows & columns by dragging the mouse
Resize columns & rows ( position pointer to a line, click & drag when you see an Adjust cursor
Navigate the table using the Tab key to move forward and Shift-Tab to move backward
Text can be formatted using the Format toolbar

• Change position of bullets:
1. Right click on the bullet or number and choose Increase Indent or Decrease Indent OR
2. Use Customize button on Bullets & Numbering dialog box and use spin boxes to set location OR
3. Click and drag the indent markers on the ruler at the top of the screen
AUTOSHAPES
• Select from the Drawing Toolbar
• Click & drag to draw shape (hold down Shift to maintain proportion)
• OR click on the workspace to have shape automatically drawn
• Autoshapes can be resized, moved, rotated, and filled with color /patterns/photos
• To add text to an autoshape, right click the shape, and left click on Add Text
SAVE A FILE (Save vs. Save As)
Save a New File:
File ( Save As ( select the desired drive in the “Save In” box (3 ½” floppy, My Documents – computer’s hard drive, network drive, etc.)
Type the name of your document ( Click Save
Save an Existing File: Save often while you are working!
Once you have created & saved a file, simply click the Diskette button on the toolbar to re-save the file
PRINT

Select page range, # of copies, the printer (if you have a choice), collate or not, & then click on OK
