CLEP stands for College Level Examination Program. CLEP exams test mastery of college-level material acquired in a variety of ways; through general academic instructions, significant independent study or extracurricular work. If eligible, students can take a CLEP exam to earn college credit towards their degree. UMass Boston only accepts certain CLEP exams for credit. Please check the chart for acceptability.

You must be approved by the Registrar's Office before you take the exam. Please allow 2-3 weeks for approval. Students in the College of Management must also receive approval for exams that will grant credit within your major.

University of Massachusetts Boston College-Level Examination Program? (CLEP) Credit Policy

UMass Boston students must obtain prior approval through the Registrar's office before taking CLEP exams for credit. If you have taken CLEP exams prior to coming to UMass Boston, ask admissions for a transfer credit evaluation. If you complete CLEP exams with the minimum score required, you may be awarded college credit as outlined in the following chart.
