Classroom Expectations
Students are expected to ALWAYS observe the standards set forth within the Rockdale County Student Code of Conduct. In addition, my classroom rules are listed below.
Safety comes first
Come to class prepared
Integrity is important
Embrace your uniqueness
No distractions
Challenge yourself
Engage your mind
Interactive Notebooks:
Interactive Notebooks WILL be used in this class daily to help students learn and remember important scientific concepts. It will be collected and graded monthly. All student work will be stored in this notebook. This notebook uses both the right and left sides of the brain to help students sort, categorize, remember, and creatively interact with the new knowledge they are gaining. The more students process information, the more they begin to understand it!
Supplies: 3 subject college ruled spiral notebook with pockets, scissors, colored pencils, 12 glue sticks
Laboratory Requirements:
Laboratory exercises are an important and exciting part of a science course. Through hands-on activities, students gain unique and important perspectives for the subject. However, certain guidelines must be followed to ensure the safety of all students.
1. Horseplay will not be tolerated during labs.
2. Students must remain at their lab station unless otherwise directed by the teacher.
3. Students must follow the instructions of the teacher. Unauthorized experiments will not be permitted.
4. Students must remain on task during labs. While some conversation is necessary, the lab is not intended to be a social forum.
Grading Policy
The completion of all work is ESSENTIAL to being successful in Earth Science. I will keep my grade book updated weekly. However, it is up to the parent(s) to be aware of their child’s grades. An active parent creates a successful student. If you have concerns or questions throughout the year regarding your child’s performance in my class, I am always willing to e-mail, call, or have a face-to-face conference with you.
70% Formative Assessments: This is work that students complete ongoing such as daily work, labs, notebook checks, short quizzes, etc.
30% Summative Assessments: This is work that students complete that allows them to demonstrate mastery of a standard such as unit tests, extended labs, science projects, etc.
Make-up Work: Students will be allowed 3 days to complete work for each day absent. It is the student’s responsibility to make sure they check for assignments they missed while they were out.
Infinite Campus: Grades are recorded weekly in Infinite Campus. Please sign up for a parent account to monitor assignments.
REMIND: Please sign up for Remind by texting 81010 with the message wwoscience. You will receive reminders of tests and project due dates.
