Q: A mixed occupancy building contains the following occupancies: Group R-1 Hotel, Group M, and Group B. The

building is designed in compliance with Section 302.3.2 Nonseparated Uses. Is a fire partition required between a Group R-1 guest room and the adjacent G roup M or G roup B occupancy?

A: No. A fire partition is only required to separate the individual guest room s within the Group R -1 occupancy. Neither

fire partitions nor fire barriers are required to separate the guest rooms from the other occupancy classifications within the building because the building is designed in compliance with the requirements of Section 302.3.2 Nonseparated Uses where separation of occupancies (fire barrier, see Section 706.3.5) is not required. _______________________________________________________________________________________________
