SECTION 4 – STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES
|The Senior Secure Care Officer is responsible for: |
|Coordinating the day-to-day care of children entering secure care, including the legislative admission process and meeting the Department’s requirements in |
|fulfilling the responsibility to the child as outlined in the Children and Community Service Act 2004. |
|Ensuring that the principles of the Department’s Therapeutic Framework are incorporated into Secure Care practice. |
|Management of Secure Care’s advanced security system, evacuation and relocation and business continuation processes in the delivery of day-to-day care. |
|The day-to-day supervision of Secure Care officers and running of the care facility program. |
|Participating in the development of the child’s therapeutic care and safety plans with management team. |
SECTION 5 – KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

| |Co-ordinates the day-to-day care of children entering secure care, including the legislative admission process and meeting the Department’s |
| |requirements in fulfilling the responsibility to the child as outlined in the Children and Community Service Act 2004. |
| |Provides a high standard of trauma informed therapeutic care consistent with the Secure Care therapeutic approach and departmental frameworks. |
| |Creates and maintains a safe, secure and caring environment for children, ensuring maintenance of safety at all times and taking physical control when|
| |necessary, according to specific standards. |
| |Ensures Secure Care practice reflects the therapeutic framework and other relevant departmental frameworks and meets the requirements of the Children |
| |and Community Services Act 2004. |
| |Assists the Senior Management Team by designing and implementing trauma informed therapeutic strategies to address the effects of trauma experienced |
| |by children. |

| |Will be responsible for the day-to-day supervision of Secure Care officers and running of the care facility program. |
| |When required, directs the operations of the work unit and ensures compliance with legislation, departmental policies and practices and management |
| |instructions within the work unit. |
| |Identifies training needs and assists the Senior Management Team in the development of staff training. |
| |Identifies issues in relation to unit operation and assists in problem solving in relation to these issues. |
| |Is responsible for accessing and recording of child information into the Department’s data bases. |
| |Will be responsible for management of Secure Care’s advanced security system, evacuation and re-location and business continuation processes in the |
| |delivery of day-to-day care. |
|3 |Residential Care Planning and Coordination |
| |Participates in the development of the child’s therapeutic care and safety plans. |
| |As directed, liaises with family members and significant others. |
| |Monitors and reports on the progress of the child to inform, review and develop therapeutic care and safety plans. |
| |Assists the Assistant Director/Manager Secure Care and Senior Psychologist with the monitoring and evaluation of the programme. |
| |Recommends to the Assistant Director/Manager Secure Care programme improvements and initiatives. |
|4 |Other Duties |
| |Completes administrative duties including recording, computer data entry and preparation of reports. |
| |Undertakes and organises housekeeping and maintenance to ensure a positive and safe physical environment. |
| |Participates in training, performance management, staff meetings and development programmes. |
| |Participates and when necessary coordinates Secure Care’s Emergency Management and Business Continuation Response duties as required. |
| |Performs other duties as required. |
SECTION 6 – WORK RELATED REQUIREMENTS
ESSENTIAL
|Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a multi-disciplinary team and supervise staff within a secure environment, guided by a therapeutic, |
|trauma informed framework. |
|Demonstrated resilience to work therapeutically with children who exhibit extreme and challenging behaviours as a result of trauma and abuse, while providing|
|supervision and guidance to other staff. |
|Demonstrated experience in the implementation of therapeutic care plans for children. |
|Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills and experience in supervising and guiding staff in report writing. |
SECTION 7 – ESSENTIAL ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
The occupant of this position will require the following prior to appointment:
• Current 'C or A' class driver's licence
• Current Senior First Aid Certificate
• Working with Children Check
• Criminal Record and Departmental Checks
• Assessed Medical and Fitness ability to undertake the duties of the position
• Willingness to commit to undertake Shift work, including weekends and public holidays
• Certificate IV, Child, Youth and Family Intervention (Residential and Out of Home care) or Child protection or equivalent higher level relevant qualifications.
