CHECKLIST FOR WINTERIZING YOUR IN-GROUND POOL

[Pages:1]CHECKLIST FOR WINTERIZING YOUR IN-GROUND POOL

IMPORTANT: YOU SHOULD CONTINUE TO RUN YOUR FILTER AND CHLORINATE YOUR POOL UNTIL YOU ARE READY TO CLOSE FOR THE WINTER EVEN IF THE POOL IS NOT IN USE.

? Vacuum your pool completely and adjust pH range to 7.2 to 7.6. Super shock your pool with Pool Breeze Granular Shock or 12.5% Liquid Shock two days prior to closing. Do not cover the pool if there is still chlorine present in the pool as it will harm the cover.

? The day before you are going to close the pool add BLUE SHIELD WINTERIZER (or WINTERIZING POWDER) and BLUE SHIELD WINTER TABS. Pour the BLUE SHIELD WINTERIZER or POWDER directly into the pool. Tie the BLUE SHIELD WINTER TABS dispensers securely in place, whereby they are not touching or are close to the pool liner approximately 10-12" down into the water.

? If using the BLUE SHIELD WINTERIZING KIT, WINTER KLEAR, AND WINTER KLEAN Replace the chemicals listed in the previous step. After adding the chemicals Run your Filter for 6-12 Hours to Circulate

? Backwash the filter. Apply BLUE SHIELD LIQUID PUMP PROTECTOR through the skimmer. This will provide protection against corrosion.

? Remove ladder, handrails, fill spouts, etc... At this point, underwater lights should be lowered into the deep end of the pool or removed (depending on type) to prevent ice damage.

? Water level: It is not necessary to lower the water level. Remove the basket and weir door (flapper) from the skimmer. Seal the skimmer opening(s) with a Skimmer Plug (Plate). This will help protect against potential ice damage at the skimmer opening.

? Unscrew all directional flow eyeballs from the return fittings. With a shop or canister type vacuum, blow out all lines. Lines should be blown out at all filter connections. Seal all wall lines with a WINTERIZING PLUG.

? If your pool is equipped with a pool heater, remove the heater drain plug and blow out heater lines also.

? Add BLUE SHIELD PIPELINE ANTIFREEZE to all underground lines (suction and return lines ? 1 Gallon Per Line)

? Blow up Ice Equalizer pillow using a shop or canister type vacuum. Some pool owners do not use the pillows. However, you should be aware of the fact most pools that experience ice damage are those not equipped with this simple and inexpensive item. Set the appropriate size Ice Equalizer in the center of the pool. Tie the Ice Equalizer in place to the side of the pool to prevent shifting during winter shut down. MOST COVER WARRANTIES ARE VOID UNLESS THE ICE EQUALIZER IS USED.

? Cover the pool using the water bag system for perimeter anchoring. Loops are integrated on better grade covers which allow for water bag placement around the pool.

? Throughout the Winter, Keep water from pooling on the winter cover with a Cover Siphon or Electric Cover Pump
