FROM FR. DAN’S DESK…
I can’t express enough the weight of grief experienced in our parish last week with the loss of two young men whose funerals we celebrated here in our church – I continue to ask you for prayers for the family of Cameron Walker age 22, and Brandon Robert age 25 – who both died in car crashes. I pray that these families will seek and feel God’s abiding love and comfort to them!
My friends each Fall, Firtian Adams Funeral Service offers a grief program called “Living After Loss”. Jill Adams and Mary Ann Rode are skilled grief counselors who offer a 6 week group program for those experiencing the pain of loss. Whether it is recent or long past, this program can be a great help. I attended it 13 years ago just after my father had passed away. I had just arrived in the parish and it was recommended to me. I can’t recommend it highly enough to you! Please see the information elsewhere in this bulletin and call Jill ASAP if you want to register. There is NO COST, but it does fill up so don’t hesitate to call!
My friends this week Catholic Parishes throughout our Country are celebrating Catechetical Sunday – the official start of our Religious Ed Programs for all ages in our parish. Not only is our Program from Kindergarten thru Grade 11 beginning, but Programs for our adults also begin in the weeks ahead – Our Bible Study on Tuesday nights, which has become very popular will begin soon, as well as our Adult Ed Programs on Tuesday nights and Thursday mornings. If you have never taken an “Adult Ed” Program, consider the invitation to deepen your faith and meet others in the parish seeking to do the same! Please see the flyers near the bulletins this week and register as soon as possible! We pray God’s blessings on all Coordinators, Teachers and Aides, as well as our Parents – first teachers of their children! From our youngest to our most senior members, may we all embark on a year of learning more about our Catholic Faith, growing closer to the Lord!
Though I had planned to take the bus from our parish going to the EWTN Family Conference in Worcester last Saturday – due to a funeral I was not able to ride the bus, but I was able to take my own car and catch up with our group afterward. It was a great day seeing so many of the EWTN program hosts and celebrating our Catholic Faith! Thanks to everyone who attended, and to Diane Czerwiecki & Andrea Cook-Hewitt for coordinating the bus in my absence! I hope more in the parish will take advantage of such great programs!
Our prayers continue to be needed by all those affected by the recent hurricanes – Harvey, Irma and Jose which wrought such devastation on so many areas. Thank you for continuing to remember those lost, families grieving, those who lost homes and property, and the relief workers who continue tirelessly to help those in need! THANK YOU to all those who have donated in our Special Collection Basket in the Gathering Space over the last two weekends for the relief efforts. If you would like more info on how to give “on-line”, see that information elsewhere in this bulletin. God bless you for your kindness and may none of us ever know such loss in our lives!
As many of you know who read our Parish Facebook Page, I recently discovered the Fatima Shrine at Stanley Park. What a discovery and what a gem! Though Stanley Park is a “private” park, it’s always great to me when I see representations of our faith in public places! As you know we are in the midst of celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the Apparitions in Fatima Portugal in 1917. The Shrine is a great place to stop when at Stanley Park – it is located behind the Carillon and to the right. It consists of a stone grotto constructed in 1951 by Rocco Calegari – the same gentleman who created the stone base for the Statue of Mary in our Mary Garden. That stone base was much higher at the old church, but for height reasons was buried deeper here in our Mary Garden. It’s lasted many decades thanks to the work of Mr. Calegari. The Shrine at Stanley Park was blessed in 1952 by Fr. Dacey – a priest of our Parish at that time. It’s really worth stopping by the Shrine, and if you are so inclined – there is a group that meets to recite the Rosary at the Shrine on the 13th of the month as our Lady had asked the Fatima Children to do. The next Rosary will be prayed there on October 13.
In keeping with the celebration of Fatima, we will once again host an Outdoor Public Rosary Rally here at the Parish on Saturday October 14 at 12:00 noon. Our Parishioner – Mary Lou Bonfitto - has been coordinating this Rally for the past several years. Rallies are held at churches around the country on this day. Please come – especially in this year of the 100th Anniversary of Fatima – and pray for peace in our world and Our Country!
Best wishes to Jeremy Trottier - a member of our Boy Scout Troop who is currently doing his Eagle Scout Project – A Braille Trail at Stanley Park – his grandmother – our parishioner - Terry Trottier – is certainly very proud of him!
God Bless, Fr. Dan

ROSARY RALLY – OCTOBER 14TH
In anticipation of the Rosary Rally on Saturday, October 14th at noon outside the church under the portico, we will focus on facts regarding Our Lady of Fatima miracles. Throughout the year, there have been many events commemorating Our Lady of Fatima’s 100th year anniversary. The messages are even more pertinent now, and in this chaotic world, should be taken seriously.
• Did you know that Jacinta was the youngest seer? She was only seven years old during the apparitions. To free souls from the fires of hell, Jacinta freely undertook sacrifices. In the fierce hear of the summer, she gave up drinking water. As a sacrifice to God’s Glory, she offered her afternoon snacks to children even poorer than she. To save souls, she took upon herself the pain of wearing a rough piece of knotted rope next to her bare skin. She endured the exhausting interrogations and insult of disbelievers all without the smallest lament. “If only I could show hell to sinners!” she said, “how happy I would be if all could go to paradise.” (Fatima Center, 2016)
HEARING ASSISTED DEVICES
In an effort to allow more people to use the hearing assisted devices, and keeping in mind hygiene and sanitary concerns, we will be providing earbuds - the ear piece and wire that attached to the mobile units. So that everyone will have their own earbuds, please take - at no cost - a set of earbuds from the table with the listening devices at the back of the church to use with the mobile unit in the charger. After Mass, bring the mobile unit back to the charger, keep the earbuds and take then home, then bring them back to church each week when you come. The mobile units will still have the over-the-ear hearing pieces that came with the system for those who prefer to use them.
BEQUESTS
We have been blessed as a Parish over the years, to be named in parishioners’ Wills and Trusts, and we are always grateful for such gifts! Please consider remembering Our Parish in your own Will as a lasting legacy to the Parish. GOD BLESS & THANK YOU!
