- Be prepared: bring needed supplies and completed homework to class EVERY DAY!

o Your InterActive Notebook (IAN) and textbook

o scissors, glue sticks, ruler, and colored pencils

- Be productive: pay attention, follow directions, be on task, be safe, and actively participate in class. All students are expected to take notes in class each day and to participate in classroom activities and discussions.

Failure to meet these expectations will results in the following consequences:

Grading Criteria

60% Daily Explorations:

- 30% Classwork

- 20% Quiz

- 10% Homework

40% Concluding Explorations:

- labs/write-ups, tests, and projects

It is very important that all work be completed and turned in on time. A 10% deduction for late work (up to a week or end of the grading period on homework or minor assignment) will be assessed to the student grade. If a student has 3 late or missing assignments, they will incur a drop in their conduct grade.

It is also important that all work be done well. Labs can be re-done for late credit. The opportunity to do test corrections will be available to students scoring less than 70% on a major test in order to bring the grade up to 70%.

A student with an excused absence will have an opportunity to make up any missed work upon return to school, in accordance with Pin Oak policy. All missed labs must be made up during after school tutorials as soon as possible upon return to school.

Tutorials

I will be available (by appointment only) on Tuesday mornings from 7:30-8:00am for students who need tutoring or lab make up. A student or parent must request an appointment no later than 24 hours prior with specific topics or assignments to be addressed during the tutorial. This will allow me to be prepared to best assist the student during the tutorial. Students are encouraged to use TEAM time wisely to seek additional help from teachers during the school day.

Homework

Students are expected to write the homework assignment in their planner at the beginning of every class period. The purpose of homework is to prepare the student for content to be covered in an upcoming class and/or to practice or extend skills covered in class. It is very important to keep up with the homework. Regular reading assignments will be given to supplement material covered in class. Students will be required to take notes from these readings and will be held accountable for the content through quizzes and tests.

Laboratory Safety

Students are expected to always practice lab safety as set forth in the attached Student Safety Contract. A student will be immediately removed from a lab because of improper conduct. There will be no make-up opportunity for incomplete labs due to unsafe conduct.
