Revised Current Events - UserLand Software

Current Events

Select a current event article from a newspaper (Charlotte Observer, Charlotte Post, USA Today, etc.), magazine (Time, Time For Kids, Newsweek, etc.), or the Internet that is about a Global Leadership and/or Economics (the name of our school magnet program) issue. Read and cut out the entire article. On a sheet of paper, list the 5 W’s (who, what, when, where, and why) from the article. Also, write a brief summary of the article using at least 5 to 10 sentences telling how you think it is interesting or important. Do not copy sentences from the article. Your summary should be in your own words and reflect your thoughts and reactions.

You can earn up to 105 points for each article by following instructions carefully and doing a good job. Be sure your paper is correctly labeled and your article is stapled to the back of the paper on which you have written the assignment.

You are required to do one current event every week. Current events are due on Fridays. Failure to turn in a current event on time will result in a zero. Current events are a good way to learn current social studies and science information.
