CURRENT EVENTS ASSIGNMENT

Social Studies

The current event article can be obtained from reliable magazines, newspapers, professional journals, and any magazine or newspaper worldwide on the Internet or in print. (Some possible sources are included on the back of this handout.) The article should be current. The current event can take please within the United States or outside the United States. NO CRIME OR ENTERTAINMENT NEWS.

Each must include the following, neatly hand-written or typed:

1. Article attached -- be sure to include the source! -- minimum length approximately one page when printed from an Internet source in "printer-friendly" format.

2. Title of article

3. 1st Paragraph: Summary of article (include who, what, when, where, why or how) written in your own words. (Please do not use words from the article that you do not know!)

4. 2nd Paragraph: Response to article- why you chose it, what you found interesting, why it was important enough to share, your own opinions, and what questions you still have about the events described.

5. Three or more questions to discuss with your classmates. These should be "why" or "how" questions.
